We went with drama and tension in this fully composed piece, using both arco and pizzicato strings (bowed and plucked), as well as supporting the routine as much as possible with chord progressions, textures and emphasis.

But it’s essential that you listen for the cues, practice to your music and desensitise your horse to the different textures of sound. Your horse will also pick up on cues, become more confident in a show arena and won’t rush if they are familiar with the music and their position with the music regarding the routine.Here is a perfect example of a rider in-tune with their music - the lovely Bluebell Equine is seen holding onto that simple change just slightly longer than her horse wanted so that she was ready to step off on the beat and remain in-time with the rest of the cues.If anyone is struggling with their music do reach out!
