It’s officially Swiftie summer, and this PR pup, Swift, is already rocking her “Eras” looks.

Making a PR campaign fun and topical is the key to gaining crucial media coverage. For one of our hospitality clients, we came up with a Taylor Swift themed cocktail menu for all of the south-coast Swifties who couldn’t make it to the sell-out tour. The menu was featured in several local newspapers and led to a packed restaurant all weekend.

Hashtags are the key to connecting your social media content to wider audiences though trending topics, events and themes, but chose them wisely!

Quantity: Limit your hashtags to 3-5 on Instagram for optimal engagement. Use platform analytics to review which hashtags work best and change them regularly to fit trends.

Quality: Don’t just use the most followed hashtags, only use tags which are relevant to your brand. The biggest tags can cause an influx of bots and spam accounts which will discourage potential customers.

Placement: Try to keep tags to the end of your captions to avoid disrupting screen-readers. Keep content accessible!

The Briscoe PR team have had another busy and productive week….

⭐️ The Bank Holiday weekend saw our client Hampshire Street Food Awards's Big Eat festival at Royal Victoria Country Park. Kevin and Charlotte were there to support with live social media activities and gather assets for future campaigns. The event was a massive success with more than 28,000 people attending across the three days!

⭐️ Hattie has been working on branding a new service for one of our charity clients which will launch later this year.

⭐️ Bella has been designing leaflets and roadside banners to promote a summer food fair for one of our retail clients.

⭐️ Sam has been scheduling client content for June and filing lots of media coverage for our clients.

⭐️ Charlotte visited Kimbridge Barn for a client meeting to discuss how we could double the work that we already do for them across PR, social media and email marketing. We start on Monday!

⭐️ Kevin had a breakfast meeting with Michael Woods from the award-winning drone photography and videography company Solent Sky Services at Shenanigans Irish Cafe in Southsea. They explored opportunities for integrating drone footage into work we are doing for our clients.

⭐️ Becca has been enjoying a very well-deserved week off, enjoying the sunshine and dodging the showers of a typical British summer 🌧

May is Mental Health Awareness Month 🌟

The CIPR 2022 Mental Health Audit found that 91% of public relations professionals experienced poor mental health at some point in the previous year. There are several factors in the industry which can cause burn out, including how much time social marketers spend on social media, and how difficult it can be to switch off at the end of the day. Here are three tips for looking after your mental health:

☀️ Pomodoro timer technique: Take a 5 minute break every 25 minutes and repeat for three sets. After the three cycles, take a longer break of 15-30 minutes. This can also increase productivity!

☁️ Turn off push notifications: Not having emails on your phone makes it a lot easier to disconnect at the end of the day. This way, you won't be as tempted to work on pop-ups which come in outside of your working hours.

☀️ Take time off: Use your annual leave wisely, let the break be a chance for you to completely get away. Similarly, filling your evenings and weekends with hobbies you enjoy is an excellent way to decompress.

Is your social media strategy inclusive?

Approximately 20 per cent of the world’s population experience some form of hearing or sight loss, and since social media is primarily consumed via visuals and audio, it’s important that they are not excluded from your content. Here are three tips to keep your posts accessible:

1. Alternative text and video subtitles: Alternative text on images will be scanned by a screen-reader and describe the photo to someone who cannot see it, while subtitles are crucial for users with hearing impairments.

2. Hashtags and emojis: Keep hashtags to the end of a post caption, not in the middle of a sentence, and limit emoji use as they can create interruptions for screen readers.

3. Avoid lots of text on graphics: If you have a lot to say, keep it to the caption so users can change the size, colour and language to suit their needs.

April Fools' Day is around the corner, have you got anything planned?

It’s important to be careful when pulling pranks on social media. With the rise of misinformation online, there’s a fine line between a lighthearted joke and a potentially damaging campaign.

Avoid convoluted jokes or ones at others' expense, and keep the antics to the 1st April - if you start playing tricks in August your reputation could be at risk. Remember to come clean about your high-jinks too!
