According to my personal blog (via the magic of Facebook memories) fourteen years ago today I interviewed the playwright John Godber for a local paper. He gave me a cracking quote about theatre: 'It's a very human activity, of humans re-enacting history for other humans to watch.'
I would say that quote altered the way I look at my work. It's become a sort of mantra to keep my eyes on the writer, the story and the reader all at once -- 'Human beings telling human stories for human beings to read.'

I am taking a moment to contemplate Gaston G***k, who has died a billionaire aged 94. He was the Austrian engineer who invented the G***k handgun. I'm not sure that he made the world a better place, but his gun is much appreciated by thriller authors because it is small and easy to conceal (however, it cannot be carried in the waistband of your protag's trousers, particularly if he is wearing joggers stolen from a washing line, and as a diligent editor, I will query this if you try it).

The G***k has been the weapon of choice for armed forces, gun owners and criminals around the world.
