My Passion is Helping you to Tell your Story

I love to write! Since I was very young I wrote poems, stories and designed personalised birthday cards for my parents. I really enjoy the challenge of finding the human side of a story, of uncovering the personality behind the business to bring a story to life or researching facts and figures to provide credibility to an article. So I set up Connect C

onsultancy to help people who don’t like to write and who find it difficult to express themselves when it comes to their business messages. Working with small companies and organisations I help people uncover their business propositions and unique selling points and improve communication, engagement and interaction across social media or through traditional marketing. Good quality, clear content helps you engage with your customers, communities or stakeholders showcasing your passion and purpose and the benefits of your business, product or service across your social media platforms. By focussing on clear messages, people will understand you and your business and you will build up loyalty and trust so that customers will be drawn to buy from you in the future. As an honest and ethical person my approach is to offer practical, affordable, tailor made solutions without the jargon and spin providing an honest assessment of improvements that can be easily implemented. My passion is backed up with 25 years’ experience in marketing and communications working with professional companies, retailers, town centre management and destination marketing organisations and in the fields of economic development, regeneration, business support and inward investment. My skills include marketing strategy, delivery and evaluation; partnership working; event development and management; project development and management; commissioning market research; bid writing and creating new services. With a background in traditional marketing, I help organisations increase their digital presence and take advantage of the power of social media and dynamic websites. I combine my passion and expertise in creative writing through crafting blogs, copy for websites, newsletters, direct mail, case studies and testimonials. The more people understand you and your story the more they will want to work with you. As well as creative writing for business I also love to share my knowledge through one to one training or workshops. I choose to be self-employed as I love the flexibility of working with lots of different organisations and managing multiple projects and delivering solutions that meet the needs of my clients. I provide flexible injections of marketing expertise to improve your digital presence, attract new customers, develop relationships and win business. These days small businesses, as well as big brands, are expected to instantly respond to emails, WhatsApp, text messages, messenger, Google or a direct message on any of your social media platforms!

It's all about offering a responsive service but with customers favouring different platforms do you try to answer yours in 24 hours? I do, except at the weekends, but it's so frustrating when you read a message on the go and can't remember where you saw it!

Posting consistently on social media is a tactic I use myself and teach my clients. For me it pays dividends, it keeps me 'top of mind', reminds people how I can help them and makes it easy for them to contact me. In January, which is generally a quiet month, I had 5 unexpected contacts resulting in work:

✔️A former client who wanted me to improve their social media profiles
✔️Someone I used to network with asking for advice on LinkedIn lead generation
✔️Some I have never met asking for help on social media content
✔️Another person I have never met asking for help on award writing
✔️A former training client who wants to book a repeat session

If you are not getting the results you want, go back to basics and make sure you are posting relevant content for your audience regularly.

○What's working, what's not?
○Who is engaging with you?
○Which platforms does your target audience use?
○Which platforms does your competitor use?
○What do they do well?

Once I've collected that information, and looked at the insights I'm ready to start thinking about ways to improve engagement and visibility.

Keywords are specific search terms your ideal customers would when searching the internet, not what think you do, or what you say about yourself. Using the right keywords will bring in the right audience.

Research keywords on Google Keyword Planner, UberSuggest or Answer the Public.

If you run a brick-and-mortar business, take a stand at exhibitions or craft fairs, attend networking groups, or run workshops/classes it is easy to create a QR code on Canva (or other graphics software) and make a poster. I do this for clients.

It could be any Call to Action - leave us a review, check out our website, sign up for our newsletter, forthcoming events/classes, become a member or donate.

You can also add QR codes to your marketing literature or business card, in Canva the software is under Apps/Create something new but there are plenty of free QR code generators out there.

It can be very hard to find decent images for and , so I tend to use a mixture of stock from places like Pixabay or Deposit Photos and images created on Canva. You can of course dabble with DALL-E and use .

Better still take your images of your business or product or employ a brand photographer to create a suite of images for your website or social media.

Good images help get attention and make your content stand out.

• This FREE platform will enable your potential clients to find you on Google Search and Maps.
• There may already be a profile in your business name which Google has created from your website information. Make sure you claim this so you can manage it!
• You can add essential information, and share posts, photos, and your logo as you do on other social media platforms.
• Create posts, offers and events, send and receive messages
• But the most important thing is to collect and respond to reviews, the more reviews the higher up the search you appear when your customers are searching for services in the local area.

Thanks to everyone who attended, donated and supported Posh Frocks 2024. We raised £1595 on the night from the raffle and sale of Xmas cards etc. plus a personal donation of £250 from Jenny Wynn and 2 x £500 match funding from HSBC from Sarah Lowe and colleague Sharon Gardener

The service and food were excellent as always at Hadley Park House and the Bhangra Fitness demonstration was amazing, thanks Jee Kay
