ICYMI Emma Anderson has collaborated with Julia Holter on her new single, a rearrangement of ‘Taste The Air’, which is out now on all digital platforms.

“I love Emma’s voice and the dreamy atmosphere of ‘Taste The Air’,” says Julia, whose sixth album ‘Something in the Room She Moves’ was released earlier this year to huge acclaim. “It was so fun to counterpoint the mesmerising vocal layers with rhythmic elements. I was honoured to fly through the clouds.”

“This mix is more or less a complete deconstruction,” says Emma. “It hints at the original track, but the parts are replaced by playful piano and stabs of strings and keys. Most notably there is so much space!

“I was absolutely thrilled when Julia said she would do a mix as I’ve been a fan since her 2015 album ‘Have You In My Wilderness’ and I was lucky enough to see her live the subsequent year at La Route du Rock in Saint-Malo, France when Lush also played.

“Everyone that’s heard this mix has been completely captivated by it. Hopefully you will be too.”

Emma Anderson has collaborated with Julia Holter on her new single, ‘Taste The Air’, which is out now on all digital platforms.

The third rearrangement of a track from Emma’s debut solo album ‘Pearlies’ is an enchanting chamber-pop interpretation by the celebrated LA-based composer, which takes the atmospheric original and turns it into an amazingly avant-garde cross between Linda Perhacs, Broadcast and Steve Reich.

Here’s a clip from the stunning visualiser by Studio Sparks.

Whitelands’ new single ‘Cheer’ is out now on all digital platforms.

The original is a live favourite and a semi-anthemic “celebration of change, rebirth, and new life”, according to singer Etienne Quartey-Papafio, while the new remix by guitarist Michael Adelaja in his howdogirlssleep guise retains the dreamy shoegaze atmosphere, but also twists it into new electronic shapes.

“It almost made itself,” says Michael of his radical reworking. “I knew that I wanted to create a very frenetic and progressive track, which supplemented the guitars which I drowned in even more reverb… A lot of the drums and foley are made from the same break, which was put into a myriad of effects, one being modulated by another and so on to create a completely procedural and unpredictable sound.”

Whitelands play the following festival dates:

August 2 – Glasgow, Core. Festival
August 25 – Cumbria, Krankenhaus Festival
August 31 – Manchester Psych Fest
September 1 – Edinburgh Psych Fest
November 9 – London, Pitchfork London
November 16 – Leeds, Live at Leeds In The City Festival

More shows will be announced very soon. Buy tickets and listen to the new single here: https://linktr.ee/whitelands2024

‘Cemetery Classics’ – the new album by Moon Diagrams aka Deerhunter co-founder Moses Archuleta – is out now!

“It’s about finding out your arms are too short to box with God,” says Moses. “It’s the inverse of a desert island disc – a graveyard disc. Songs to take into the afterlife.”

It is available on limited-edition 180g vinyl, CD and all digital platforms via Sonic Cathedral in the UK and Europe and Angus Andrew from Liars’ new No Gold label in the US and ROW.

Acclaimed as Album of the Week by Norman Records and Drift Record Shop, here are some of the other things being said.

“Deerhunter drummer Moses Archuleta is bringing back his solo project Moon Diagrams for a new album that he recorded with some talented friends” – Stereogum

“A mesmerising, ethereal cut-and-paste dreampop collage… it features contributions from Cindy Lee‘s Patrick Flegel, Gang Gang Dance’s Josh Diamond, and Anastasia Coope, and was mixed by James Ford” – BrooklynVegan

“A curious mixture of coherence and clarity, darkness and light, soft and heavy. There are moments of industrial unease, rhythmic passion and serene reflection. Moments of nightlife energy are dispersed throughout the album by discerning moments of ambient respite. The influences are vast, but Archuleta importantly imbues the 12 tracks with a running identity of detachment and noir haze” – Far Out Magazine

“Bauhaus… early Animal Collective… Su***de… Ulrich Schnauss… the wobbly loops of Third Eye Foundation… the mutant dance of Arthur Russell or Tom Tom Club. The result of one man’s wild creativity rather than an attempt to produce a slick and linear record. It’s all the better for it. The murky, experimental spirit of Deerhunter definitely walks tall amongst this LP” – Norman Records

The new Moon Diagrams album gets Album of the Week at Norman Records!

ALBUM OF THE WEEK: Moon Diagrams - 'Cemetery Classics'

Deerhunter’s Moses Archuleta returns with his first Moon Diagrams full-length since 2017.

'Cemetery Classics' hears him deliver a genre-spanning work of synthy dream pop, neo-psychedelia, and hazy ambient pop, complete with club music flourishes.

Check out this week’s lead review, as we explore his homespun songcraft and stitched together samples, his wide-range of influences which include the 80s output of 4AD, 2000s decade neo-psych, Arthur Russell, and Su***de, and it’s guest spots from Patrick Flegel of Cindy Lee and Women, and Gang Gang Dance’s Josh Diamond.

deary have released ‘The Moth’ – their first brand new material since last year’s eponymous debut EP.

Produced by the band with Iggy B (Spiritualized), recorded at the 44ADstudio in London and the BBella Unionstudio in Brighton and mastered by Simon Scott from SSlowdive(band) the song finds the band going through an appropriately titled metamorphosis.

‘The Moth’ is dark and direct with howling guitars atop a strident breakbeat – more Curve than Cocteau Twins.

“We focused a lot on the rhythm and syncopation,” says the band’s Ben Easton. “There are counter melodies and off beat percussion. It’s very dense and immediate, with little room to breathe which adds to the claustrophobia in the subject matter.”

“I wanted to write about being drawn to things which are not good for us,” clarifies singer Dottie about the song’s lyrics. “However, that fleeting feeling of immortality is too tempting to fly away from.”

Here’s a snippet of the video, directed by LLiam Beazley Filmaka Limb.

“We decided to create a short film about someone breaking free from a mystical woodland cult,” say the band of the slightly creepy clip.

“The result is incredible thanks to Liam and some friends and family who didn’t mind sacrificing their Sunday cavorting in the woods.”

‘The Moth’ is out now on all digital platforms and check back at midday for news on a physical release. In the meantime, listen to it and watch the full video here: https://linktr.ee/dearyband

ICYMI Lush co-founder Emma Anderson has teamed up deary on her new solo single, ‘For A Moment”.

“I was delighted when my lovely labelmates deary agreed to rework ‘For A Moment’,” says Emma. “What they delivered was totally unexpected – a stripped down, heavy on the rhythm elements, dubby and atmospheric track with, dare I say it, a subtle nod to the ’90s. It focuses on the non-lyric vocal section of the song which is genius too.”

“We decided to focus on Emma’s vocal hook on a loop,” explains deary’s Ben Easton. “It seemed natural to take it in a more dubby direction, with some extra atmospherics for good measure. We had such a fun time playing around with it and it was an honour to rework a track from Emma’s incredible solo album.”
