Boardmasters day one! - Thursday (rig day)

28 of our students from Solent University are out and working at this year and are providing live production at Boardmasters Main Stage as well as exciting Documentary Footage!

Despite the constant rain today, the team pulled through and completed the rig so all has gone to plan!

Camp Bestival South Day 2 - Friday (Live!)

What a day it's been for us here at Camp Bestival Dorset so far. We had a wonderful time with our documentary crew (as seen in the first image) capturing content off-stage and deeper into the festival. If you see our crew out and about, say hello!

Our OB Crew had the wonderful highlight of filming , .sax and so many highlight artists including !

Only two days to go, so let's hope the sun stays out!

Camp Bestival Day 1 - Thursday (Rig Day!)

32 of our students from Solent University are out and about at Dorset this year providing live production of the Castle Stage as well as some Documentary Footage.

While the rain was still pouring down, we managed to get the rig complete and so far - so good!

Students from the Sports Journalism course hosted Phil Packer MBE from BRIT (British Inspiration Trust) Challenge, who shared inspiring stories to our students and staff, raising awareness about mental health for University Mental Health Day.

The talk was live streamed by Solent Productions utilising students from various courses inluding Live Event Technology, TV Production, Film Production and Media Production using our new Blackmagic ATEM Extreme ISO, 3x cameras and an X32 sound desk with various mics sending sound to a PA for the live audience, for Q&A's with Phil in the Palmerston Lecture Theatre.
Additionally, after the talk we filmed some vox pops interviews with Phil and the Sports Journalism students.

Recently we had an amazing lighting and directing for narrative film workshop, held by one of Solent’s Technical Instructor’s, the fabulous Jeff! We had students participating from across all 3 year groups from various courses such as, Film Production, Film & TV, TV Production and beyond!

The session consisted of preparing and shooting a "Deep Sea Exploration" scene, where the students had the opportunity to work with the Sony FX9 camera, ARRI Skypanel lights and Orion Anamorphic lenses. They were able to try out various set roles, such as Camera Operating, 1st and 2nd AC, Script Supervising, 1st AD and many more. Getting our students industry ready by delivering real world experience from industry professionals.

Another amazing workshop by Solent Productions where we covered fundamental post-production skills for our students, running through the ins and outs of Adobe Premiere Pro. This was held in LT1 which is also the University's on- campus Digital Cinema room!

Post production skills are super useful for our music festivals, especially for our documentary crew!

Solent Productions have been working on some wonderful extracurricular activities that we encourage students to attend to build industry standard skills, giving great experience for their futures and providing great skills to learn lots for our music festivals.
For our first training session, we had the pleasure to be working with Ben Baker from EMG UK (Europe Media Group) who provided our students some Cable Training!

The session covered different types of cables, giving hands on experience with crimping and ending BNC and RJ45 cables.
