With summer holidays at its peak - and more people visiting our South Coast communities - you might be wondering:

“How can I get all the holiday makers visiting our coastal towns to visit and purchase from my business?” 🤔

This is where seasonal SEO is key in helping you get discovered by those looking for small, local businesses. ⬇️

Don’t let these tips slip away, SAVE this post for future seasonal posts! 💾

1. Google Trends: 💻
How?: Go to Google Trends and set the date filter to the previous 7 days up to the previous 30 days while researching keywords that have to do with your location, industry, business, etc.

You will then get different results and lists that will show what people are searching for and you can then implement those keywords into your captions, alt-text, text overlays, etc.

Why?: Knowing which keywords are popular and being used in searches during a specific season allows you to know you can break into your specific market and be more easily found by your audience.

📓An extra little note: What’s trending or popular during the summer months may not be trending during the winter months, so it’s easier to use SEO to stand out during peak seasons with the right, relevant keywords for each season.

2. Research Hashtags: #️⃣
How?: Do some research on trending hashtags by using the search engine on the social media platforms and review how popular (how many people have used the hashtag itself, we recommend trying to use hashtags that have more than 500 uses and less than 1 million as a rough guide).

Examples that are popular with “East Sussex:”

Why?: For your regular content you might use hashtags that have to do with your product, service or industry specifically, but with more timely and seasonal content try adding some hashtags that have to do more with the local area and relevant summer time trends. Much like with the keywords on Google Trends, hashtags also differ in popularity during different seasons.

3. Location Specific Keywords: 🌊
How? Now that you have identified trending keywords, incorporate your location into them to enhance local search visibility. Whether it's the name of your town or the wider county, using location-specific tags can extend your reach.

For instance, if you operate in Eastbourne, tag your posts with along with broader tags like to cover all bases.

Why? Localising your keywords makes it easier for potential customers who are already in your area or planning a visit to find you. This targeted approach ensures you appear in searches specific to your locale, increasing the chances of attracting foot traffic and online visits.

💡Quick Tip: Combine general industry tags with localised tags in your posts. For example, if you're a café in Brighton, use combinations like along with seasonal tags like to capture the attention of tourists and locals looking for a spot to enjoy the season.

4. Create Summer Content: ☀️
How? Celebrate the season by incorporating summer-themed visuals in your content.

Capture your products basking in the sunny charm of the South Coast or film your services in action outdoors, showcasing vibrant summer settings. And, if typical English weather prevails and skies are grey, inject creativity into your content by demonstrating how your offerings can still bring summer joy, even on overcast days. Leverage popular summer events or local festivities in your content.

Why? Using seasonal content to connect with your audience highlights the relevance of your products or services during the summer months. It engages both current followers and attracts new customers looking for summer-specific solutions.

5. Update your Google Business Profile 🤳
How? Sometimes your GBP gets neglected - don’t worry, it happens to all of us.

Let’s say you’ve just created new summer content, instead of just using it for your socials, why don’t you add those pictures with a brief description (sprinkling relevant keywords in where you can) to your profile!

Why? Since your Google Business Profile is the first thing that new clients will see when they Google you, adding new seasonal photos to your profile allows them to know that your product or service is a great choice for their summertime.

💡Extra tip: Make sure if your business hours are longer in the summer time that you update your GBP to showcase that! And, make sure your location is accurate so people can find you and your business is discoverable when they search for
“ ______ near me” or “ best ______ in ______.”

➕We’ve also put together a quick example of what these 5 tips look like in practice in our Instagram post, make sure to follow us on there to get the extra tips and ideas!

Let’s explore the importance of being on the right channels instead of putting your business everywhere...⬆️

We get it, as a small, local or independent business, you might feel the pressure to be everywhere online.

But let’s focus on quality over quantity - and, being in the right place for the right people for your business goals. 🎯

Don’t have time to read on or watch the full video?
SAVE this post for later to help you and your business navigate which platforms to focus on. 💛

Remember, the digital channels your business should be on truly depends on your unique business goals, target audience and content strategy.

💡 But, here are few more examples of what choosing different platforms may look like for different types of businesses.

👉 A charming seaside café in Eastbourne or Brighton would find Instagram and Facebook as a great fit for their business.

This is where they can showcase their stunning sea views, delicious cakes, behind-the-scenes of making their famous menu item, share special community events, and their welcoming atmosphere to locals and tourists alike.

👉 A boutique shop in Lewes might find success on platforms like Instagram and Pinterest, where they can share updates on new arrivals, spotlight certain products, provide decorative inspiration with links to their product and engage with their community.

👉 A family-run B&B in Hastings would find Google My Business, TripAdvisor and their own website (with blogs on ideas and insights on what to do in their local area) as prime channels to focus on.

This is where they can gather glowing reviews, share real photos, important details (and personal touches) and attract travelers looking for a cozy place to stay.

This is what I would do if I only had 1 hour for social media on a super busy week ⬇️

There’s no doubt that your business should be getting much more than just 1 hour a week of your time. ⏰

And, there’s certainly no doubt that every business owner is busy most of the time. 😮‍💨

But, there are some weeks where things get

Maybe you’re working on a really important project that is taking lots of time, energy and commitment.

Maybe it’s peak season for your product/service and you know you’re not going to have much time for your socials.

Or, maybe you have a life event/circumstances that you need to prioritise your time and attention to.

Whatever it may be, SAVE this post for when that time comes so that you can focus on what you need to, while still maximizing the limited amount of time you have for your social media. 💛

Not all my note taking and brainstorming requires this much floor space… 😉✍🏼

But, I do love a good flip chart, so it definitely happens from time to time. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Last week, we had a really great one-off intensive session where we did a deep dive into the business’s brand narrative, content strategy, content planning & more.

We couldn’t resist using the flip chart in our session to help us build the roadmap for their content. It was also a great way to brainstorm some ideas in a more visual way. 💡

But, now it means I need a little extra floor space to consolidate it all for the digital version that they’ll use as their North Star going forward. ✨

Are you a pen and paper person?
Or are you all digital all the way?

Interrupting your Tuesday feed to tell you the SoCo Story … the beginning. 📖

As a business who encourages all those we work with to tell the story behind their brand, I thought it was time to share ours... ✨

It all began about 10 years ago - maybe even earlier.

Nevertheless, it’s clear that a combination of serendipitous circumstances led to the creation of SoCo Marketing Collective.

And, while SoCo is still in its infancy, we can’t wait to see how the story unfolds as we work hard to grow and - most importantly - help businesses along the South Coast by using digital marketing, social media and multimedia storytelling.

We’d love to hear the story behind your business - and help you share it. ☀️

Do you ever feel like the social media algorithms are unfairly disadvantageous to your business? ⬇

There's a common concern that algorithms favour larger brands with deep pockets, potentially sidelining small, local, independent businesses.

However, these algorithms primarily seek engagement and relevance, offering a unique opportunity for businesses like yours to leverage their close-knit community and authentic content for better visibility.

If I could go back in time, I would tell myself this: ⬇️

* The little details matter and the foundational tasks will take extra time to get right, especially when you’re starting out. But, it’s worth the extra hours to set you apart and lay a quality foundation. ✨
* ALWAYS triple check shipping times, shipping destinations and shipping prices before getting too invested in certain customisable products. It will save you a lot of time & incorrectly formatted design work. 😉

Luckily, those lessons are now well and truly ingrained into my mind.

And, in the last 3 days, SoCo has received 7 different deliveries. 📦

So, now comes the best part: bringing many those hours of planning and prep to life in our special SoCo client packs.

In between the midst of a busy schedule this week, I’m carving out time to assemble these little tokens of appreciation for our amazing clients.

But, there’s still one element of our SoCo packs that we are trying to establish:
What sweet treat to include? 🍪🤔

We’re currently all about chocolates (who isn’t?), and they’re lined up for our next few packs.

But I’m wondering, if we should we mix it up with cookies, candies, mini cupcakes, or maybe honey sticks?
What sweet treat would you be thrilled to find in a client pack?

And I’d love to hear your thoughts —how do you show gratitude to your clients?
