involved in the community as much as we can be!
We are proud to be supporting our local community.
Holy Cross College in collaboration with Community Radio VCA 88.5fm, last night had the pleasure of inducting eight of our Year 11 and 12 students into the VCA 88.5fm family. The students will be undergoing broadcast training prior to the launch of Holy Cross College’s own weekly radio show. This exciting opportunity has been strongly supported by Jessica Shaw MLA, who was in attendance last night to present our students with a welcome pack and chat about their future goals.
The idea for a secondary school radio programme designed to provide local students with opportunities to work towards their dream of working in Media, began 3 years ago when chairman Jimmy Antartis sat in the office of Jessica Shaw MLA. Holy Cross became involved in December last year after a student approached the station looking for a work experience placement. Jimmy saw an opportunity and approached our VET Coordinator with the idea.
Our students, along with Jessica Shaw, our Vice Principal Albert Borello, (including one of the student’s younger family members), toured the station, seeing both broadcasting and production equipment, and having the opportunity to ask many questions. The students were overheard describing it as ‘sick’ and other positive verbs! Before the show begins broadcasting, all students will participate in training with a view to launch the inaugural broadcast on the 17th May from 4 – 5pm.
We at Holy Cross are very excited at the opportunities that our students are being provided and we are looking forward to developing a successful partnership, expanding horizons and the realisation of students dreams.
