Releases releases! I've not shouted about many of the artists releases that have come through the studio this summer -> winter.

I'm honoured that so many put their trust n faith in me to work on their tunes and keep the studio so busy.

- 1. put down and released a great album this year, one she's been living with for a long time. mostly backed by the and other guests. All whilst battling an autoimmune disease (see pic 2). Incredible determination and an even more incredible person & songwriter. Can't wait to see where she takes her music from here. - Recording, Mix, Mastering (some drums too).

- 3. released her corker of a single 'Bitter', this track was re-invisioned & was worth the extra work. I love getting to work on Lianne's music, it's always epic & a fun challenge. Punchy rock to epic ballad styles. Mixing

- 4. - the man behind the trumpet on all Dub Cavern productions/horn section recordings! It's been a real pleasure being able to help him with his 70/80's style disco tracks with a bit of a neo/contemporary fusion. I'm dead into it. Drums, percussion & Mixing on this one!

- 5. release 'Wild Winds'. They've recorded a few acoustic style singles with me before, heard this track & immediately felt the 90's stoner rock feel. Glad they went with me on that one as it ended up a bit of a banger! Drums, Recording, Mix & Master.

- 6. recently released a beautiful album. Less input from me on this one, simply some guitar recording, but I feel it's worth a mention anyway because I've been addicted to the album! & have been lucky enough to back him on drums for recent shows.

- 7/8. Back to dub. The Grampians (myself, & ) release 2 7" singles, full runs of vinyl pressing cut in Italy. Featuring Canadian based vocalist on 'Rocker Arena' and the wonderful on 'Strange Times'. 2 Heavy weight roots tunes. Contact us to grab a copy! (Drums, Percussion, Keys, Mixing)

A year today since the huge Dub Cavern Drums Crucial Loops & Samples pack released! Thanks to all who have supported, bought it and shared some of their brilliant music with the world. https://www.dubcavern.co.uk/dubdrums

FREE STEMS it's exactly a year since the recording work of my Dub Cavern Drums loops/sample pack, so I decided to put a quick free stems pack together last night. 2 loops this time! (as the first take I recorded ends with a crash cymbal, which is nice, but not always so useful for looping beats) The take you hear first in this video has a wacky fill at the start, but the second loop (1.25 in vid) starts with a more classic intro :) Both beats include live percussion parts - Tambourine, Kete, Flexatone, Vibraslap. As with the sample pack, there are full drum mixes, full drums with percussion and spring reverb, mixed 'busses' (kick, snare, overheads, toms, percussion etc) and full multitrack stems. So you can use the beats straight up, or edit & mix them yourselves! Main Drum Buss sent through analog compression, valve & tape stage on the way out. Free Stems! Alot of people have enjoyed the sound of the Ribbon Room mic in the Dub Cavern Drums Loops & Samples Pack, and I've been enjoying it more recently too, with just a vintage sounding mono drum capture, it really feels similar to some of the sounds I love from early roots and some (extra crunchy) lovers rock. Just a Ribbon mic at a distance, into a vintage BBC valve preamp, and some spring reverb. (though I've included kick & snare channels in the stems folder if some of you are absolutely crazy and wanna use more than one mic!) Final stages of exports for the now massssive Dub Cavern Drums Loops, Stems & Sample Pack! A lot of hours and love have been put into this Reggae and Dub drum pack to end all drum packs. 140+ full drum performances ranging from 40 second to 3+ minutes, recorded analog with 70's era drums and equipment, full multi-track stems, mixed stems with analog processing, and bonus effects tracks from Lexicon and wonderful spring reverbs. Tempos ranging from 65 to 85bpm. Dusty drum sounds playing with all the old stuff, an old Soviet Lomo mic on snare, vintage eletrovoice on hats and an U47 on kick. Valve preamps and spring reverb

@the_bomb_fayre_band in the mix today with some brutal analog saturation going down for this heavier sound. The Grampian 636 spring reverb has a super cool sounding preamp distortion when overdriven, it's how Pete Townsend of The Who got his guitar distortion sound and this very unit has a service tag in it from Olympic studios (where he spent a lot of time) so it may have been used by the man himself. They're quite coveted and rare/hard to find on good condition, so much that @soundgasltd have been making the front end preamp stage as a distortion unit without the reverb circuit and I get why, it's a unique sound. As it goes I got this unit just after it was used on Lee Scratch Perry's 'Back On The Controls' album and was used by that very man himself! So a cool history. We also have the @gainlabaudio on high compression drum buss smashing duties. The space echo adding gritty slap back echo to vocals and guitar, 1176 on guitar for some ballsy FET aggression and the @retroinstrumentsinc 176 (as ever) pinning down and fattening main vocals. #mixengineer #analog #soundengineer #producer #dubcavern #dubcavernstudio

After a year or two of working up to it I took the plunge on a beautiful set of 1970's Rogers drums made in the USA. These drums are the pinnacle of vintage drums in my eyes and this kit represents the sound I've been wanting to achieve in terms of reggae and dub for some time! Hitting the kick drum feels like being smacked in the chest with a bag of sand, it's very satisfying! With my main focus recently on dub productions, drum recording for producers and personalised sample packs it seemed like the right time. Today I've been tracking drums in a rubadub style for @shaolin_sound , @roll_and_record and @pendub_production and it's sounding pretty heavy! #dubcavern #drums #soundengineer #reggae #dub

I'm very lucky to work with all the brilliant artists I do (and I hope the feeling is mutual!), but sometimes a project comes along where it feels like you're working on something truly special, something you know you'll be proud to say you were a part of. @bella.askew 's EP is one of those times! The songwriting is beautiful from front to back and I have enjoyed every moment of helping her craft and produce the tracks into something bigger than her and her guitar, laying drums and keys and bringing in session musicians to provide extras. This track in particular has been a lot of fun going down the producer's rabbit hole and I'm thankful Bella trusted me enough to let me go in on this track, writing keys, horns and strings arrangements (horns then re-recorded by the fantastic @robmilnejazz along with some additional flute). From the get go I heard the classic Ray Charles'esque jazz ballad potential in this tune and it's coming together nicely. Keep an eye on Bella's profile for a soon to be released first single off the EP!

Mikey Shaw is an Engineer and Producer with a long history entrenched in the local Norwich music scene. After years of running small mix rooms and studios in the area, he teamed up with like minded Engineer - Jason Baldock of Old School Studios to create and share a space.. A cool as hell military bunker to be precise! - The Crunch studio. The studio comprises of a hybrid set up of vintage analogue recording gear, beautiful old and modern microphones, handmade 'one offs', and high quality converters set within a digital interface/multitracking system. Whilst Mikey's specialty is reggae and dub, there is no limit to the studio's applications in terms of genre! The vintage warmth and beefiness of valve and tape based recording/mixing equipment lends itself to just about all forms of music. And if you just want clean and sparkly... Well, that's fine too!
