It is with great sadness that we write this post to tell you about the sudden passing of Beacon Films’ member, Luke Zuccaroli.

Luke contributed so much to Beacon Films productions through his wit, professionalism and sense of humour, which earned him the title of our β€˜go-to ideas man’ when it came to solving a creative problem on a project or coming up with entertaining storylines and snappy dialogue.

A wonderful actor and singer, Luke featured in so many of our most successful short films and created unique and iconic characters such as the love-struck pirate, in the award-winning Pirate and The Mermaid film.

During the live musical performances at our Premieres, Luke channelled his hero, the legendary, Elvis Presley, and brought a passion, energy and enthusiasm to all of the songs he performed on stage, which our audiences enjoyed and loved so much.

A long standing member of Beacon Films, Luke was a joy to work with and will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

Our deepest sympathies and condolences go out to his loving family and friends at this difficult time and to all our members who knew and worked with Luke during our projects.

In celebration of Luke’s memory we will be screening a selection of short films featuring his most iconic performances on: Sunday 21st January from 10.30am to 12.00pm at Beacon Films. More details to follow nearer the time.

Beacon Films have partnered with ARC Stockton Arts Centre to provide a series of Relaxed Screenings for older and adult audiences.

The screenings have some adjustments to make them more comfortable for older and adult audiences who may be autistic, have learning disabilities or specific access requirements.

Anyone is welcome to attend a Relaxed Screening, so long as you are respectful towards audiences with a range of access needs, including people who may need to make noise or move around during a film.

The next screening is The Old Oak, the latest film from legendary film director Ken Loach, which was filmed locally in County Durham.

Wednesday 1st November
7.30pm
ARC Stockton Arts Centre

About the film:

The Old Oak is a special place. Not only is it the last pub standing, but it’s also the only remaining space where people can meet in a once thriving mining community that has now fallen on hard times. Landlord TJ Ballantyne hangs on to The Old Oak by his fingertips, and the pub falls into more danger due to some local attitudes to the arrival of Syrian refugees who are placed in the village without any notice.

In an unlikely friendship, TJ meets a curious young Syrian, Yara. Can they find a way for the two communities to understand each other? The Old Oak is a deeply moving drama about their struggles and hopes.

Content Notes: Please note that The Old Oak contains very strong language (swearing), violence and themes of racism and discrimination.
