🐙It's World Octopus Day! 🐙

At NatureBureau, we are always looking for an excuse to celebrate an amazing animal! 🎉

Octopus are one of the most intelligent animals found in the oceans, using their knowledge to adapt and survive the challenges of life underwater. They are masters of trickery, using chromatophores in their skin and shells or rocks from their surroundings to camouflage against almost any surface!

One of our marine ecologists is a keen researcher in cephalopods, and is currently working on a study which investigates the sustainable fishing of these important animals!

Welcome Dr. Lissa Batey to our team! With over 20 years in marine conservation, she has inspired many to protect our oceans. From research at sea to leading initiatives at The Wildlife Trusts, Dr. Batey’s dedication is unparalleled.

Now, as Senior Marine Ecologist at NatureBureau, she’ll be spearheading projects across Europe and beyond. In her free time, she enjoys coastal walks, Dartmoor treks, and bodyboarding in Devon and Cornwall.

📖 We're thrilled to share a sneak peek into our upcoming book, "Moths of Lancashire" by Stephen Palmer & Ben Smart. Covering an impressive 1570 moth species and featuring over 2500 stunning photographs within its 672 pages, this book is a true treasure trove for nature enthusiasts!

🌍 Originally planned to include records up to 2022, we couldn't resist delving into the fascinating discoveries of 2023. As the year unfolded, we realized the importance of documenting the eleven new species spotted in Lancashire. Although they didn't neatly fit into our original plan, we've dedicated a special section just for them!

🗺️ To give you a glimpse of their rarity, we've included a map pinpointing their sparse, often solitary, locations. While we haven't included flight graphs, you'll find all the recorded dates listed in the text for your exploration.
