We would like to thank respected guest Dr Bano Murtuja for joining presenter Amina Iqbal during the weekly ‘Taleem Kyoun’ radio show on Thursday 20th June 2024 LIVE on Pendle Community Radio - Awaz 103.1FM

For almost 2 decades Dr Bano Murtuja has been a student of Islamic knowledge studying with respected teachers from around the world.

Dr Bano Murtuja’s primary passion remains the biography of the Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) which she has studied and taught for almost 20 years.

In 2021 she launched Stories from the Seerah ﷺ a lively and engaging podcast on the life and times of the blessed Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W). The podcast is now listened to in over 20 countries around the world.

During October 2023 her inaugural LIVE tour of ‘Stories of the Seerah’ was sold out across 6 cities in the UK and was attended by children and adults.

Given the current events taking place in Palestine, Dr Bano Murtuja feels it is both appropriate and essential to focus on the importance of Palestine to the Muslim Ummah. The 2024 tour is now underway and will focus on the Isra - the night journey of the Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) from Mecca to Palestine, the sacred land of Prophet Ibrahim (A.S).

We would like to thank respected guest Mahmood Ahmed better known as Mebs Ahmed for joining presenter Amina Iqbal during the weekly ‘Taleem Kyoun’ radio show on Thursday 25th April 2024 LIVE on Pendle Community Radio - Awaz 103.1FM

During the LIVE radio show our guest answered questions relating to how he became a police officer and also what inspired him to become an author.

Mebs Ahmed has led a vibrant and varied life that ultimately led to him fulfilling his father’s dream of being ‘a service to others’.

From humble beginnings in a rural village in Pakistan, he moved to life in modern-day England, being the only one of five siblings to survive infancy. The family initially settled in Oxford, moving to Bradford in 1967, then across the Pennines to Blackburn in 1973, currently residing near Preston. He arrived in England as an incredibly shy and timid boy, though well behaved and punctual, he struggled academically. After leaving school with nothing more than a few ‘O’ Levels, he took on various jobs including working as a cashier/clerk in a bank, a dairy worker, a traffic warden and finally, as a bus conductor/driver. A chance meeting with a total stranger whilst working as a bus conductor/driver, led to a complete transformation in his life. This transformation led to Mebs gaining confidence and self-esteem, it also gave him the inspiration to become a police officer with Lancashire Constabulary in 1989. For the first ten years, he worked as a uniformed patrol and beat officer, then in 1999, he took up a role at the Constabulary’s HQ. He led on the work to address the under-representation of Black and Asian police officers and staff within the Constabulary’s workforce. A role that earned both Lancashire Constabulary and Mebs national and local awards and for him, a reception dinner with the then Prime Minister, Gordon Brown.

Since retiring from the police in 2013, Mebs has kept himself busy, by taking on some work with Edgehill University, he continues to mentor young people, helping them to be the best they can be. He is a guest speaker, delivers diversity and unconscious bias training, runs a debating/discussion group and is a published author.

He loves most sports and continues to play table tennis and badminton. He has an optimistic perspective on life and sees each challenge as a learning opportunity.
