Directors Highlight: another brilliant talent we have on our directors roster is. BADTA award winning Antonin Niclass: a Swiss-French director and animator. His masterpiece, ‘Do Not Feed The Pigeons,’ (which can be seen on our website) garnered international acclaim, clinching prestigious accolades, including a BAFTA for Best Short Animation. We have some incredibly exciting news to share with you! For 2024 we are delighted to announce the addition of 2 NEW DIRECTORS to our incredible roster here at A+C Studios. A really exciting and important signing, this new face to our roster has helped create some of the most iconic stop motion animations of recent times. Their talent and skill is undeniable and their reel even more so. Their expertise as lead animator on many a blockbuster movie (including the making and animating of this iconic character shown here) has enriched their directing and we are delighted to have them join our team.

This week on our Directors Highlight is Jess Deacon. Jess Deacon is our resident paper engineer as well as being one of our directors at A + C Studio. Based here in Margate, Jess’s love affair with paper started at university in Brighton where she studied as an illustrator. From there on her journey into animation weaved its way to Margate where she ended up living just around the corner from our studios. Having worked on a variety of commercial campaigns and personal projects in various capacities we are delighted she has joined our roster after her beautiful film ‘Revolution’ won an award and was selected for film festivals around the globe. This weeks Directors Highlight is Luiz Stockler is an award-winning Brazilian-British Animation Director, Animator, Illustrator and Filmmaker working and living between London and Bucharest. He is a graduate of The University of Wales, Newport and The Royal College of Art. He’s directed short films and commercial projects for a number of big and small clients – using minimalistic, playful, colourful and character driven work to drive home both simple and complex ideas. His work has been recognised by the Royal Television Society, Vimeo Staff Picks and the Adobe Design Achievement Awards and his short films have been screened and awarded in festivals around the world. This weeks Directors Highlight is Mai Vu.
Born in Sai Gon in Vietnam, she began her career in 2010, building puppets out of paper and creating short films using stop-motion. She went on to develop her craft as a writer and director with the beloved stop-motion series, Say Hi To Pencil, which ran from 2012 to 2019 and continued to produce a range of commercials for high-profile clients such as Vietnam Airline, Perfetti Van Melle, Clé de Peau, Pepsi, Forbes to name but a few.
Her style is unique, working with paper puppets there is a unique a delicacy and intricacy to them. Their emotions and stories leave strong imprints on the viewer. Her work has always been well-received, which led her to further her studies and move to London in 2020 to study a Master’s degree in Directing Animation at the National Film and Television School, where she developed her passion for storytelling. Mai’s latest achievement is the screening of her film ‘Spring Roll Dream’ at the prestigious La CineF, Cannes Film Festival 2022, which is a testament to her talent and hard work.
We can’t wait to share her work with you this week, we have an incredible roster of Directors here at A+C, each one with their own distinctive style.

Over the coming weeks we will be deep diving into our incredible roster of directors here at A+C. We are proud to work with talent from all over the globe, but to kick us off let’s start close to home, with our founder Dan Richards. Dan trained in Bristol at the Aardman Academy and went on to work as a puppet maker for their movie, Wallace and Gromit: Curse of the Were-Rabbit. After which he came back to Kent where he was born, to continue his stop animation dreams. Producing his first project Windmill Boy from his garden shed and inspiring numerous children with stop-animation projects in schools throughout Kent, he finally opened his own studio,A+C, in 2007. He has become one of the best stop motion commercial directors and nurtured many talents through the doors of the studio, which is now based in Margate. Working for brands such as Squarespace, Lego, BBC, Yeo Valley, to name but a few, Dan’s work is playful and informative. We are home after our wonderful week in Cannes for MIPJunior. It was a whirlwind of inspiring insight sharing and talks, and a delight to get to spend time with old and new connections. Our director Vida was a part of the dream team of talented artists from around the world that created the music video for Zedd's "Paper Cut"! 🎶🎥 The team at Golden Wolf brought together some of their favourite artists to create a cohesive film using a variety of styles. After developing the storyline, they put together a script, storyboard, and animatic, then divided the shots between themselves and their collaborators. Vida was one of the collaborators, and her hand-drawn animation perfectly fits the black-and-white aesthetic of the video.
