Meet our new dynamic faction leaders! Each leader brings unique bonuses and guides their factionโ€™s strategy. An expansionist leader, for example, focuses on capturing new territories efficiently. If youโ€™re unhappy with your leader or a rivalโ€™s, you can change the game through a challenging raid mission. Leaders can be replaced once per cycle, and assisting them in their goals enhances their bonuses.

Winter is coming, and so is weekly news!

Dynamic weather system
The weather changes are not merely cosmetic but also play a significant role in the gameplay. For instance, since winter is coming, there is a chance that it will be cold and snowy. Players will need appropriate winter gear to survive. Without it, they risk frostbite and reduced stamina. Water, if not stored in a thermal container, may freeze, making it inaccessible until it thaws.

During summer, the weather could become very hot and lead to Drought. In a drought, water becomes a precious resource. Mercenaries will consume water more quickly, highlighting the importance of hydration. Failing to wear a hat can even lead to sunstroke, making headgear a vital part of your survival kit. And not to mention that your base that could have some agricultural activity can be affected as well.

The dynamic weather system extends beyond survival and affects the in-game economy. Resources like food and water become scarcer during extreme weather conditions, leading to increased market prices and the potential for economic exploitation. Smart players can adapt their strategies to profit from these fluctuations.

Scavenging is a core aspect of Lost Region's gameplay, and weather conditions add complexity. During winter, players must prioritize finding shelter and warm clothing. In droughts, hunting for water sources becomes a top priority.

Adapting to the weather and planning your scavenging trips accordingly can mean the difference between life and death in the Lost Region.

Monthly news
Lost Region is moving to monthly instead of weekly news. The reason is that we already implemented all that it is in GDD (game design document), and right now, we are focusing on balancing and merging all the features. Major updates would be displaced in monthly news and a summary of the project's results.

Rise your hands for the weekly news!

Hands up! Baby, hands up!

A new emote - "Hands Up." Initially designed for player-to-player interactions, this emote now opens up a whole new dimension of engagement with NPCs in the game. By triggering the "Hands Up" emote, players can convey their intention to surrender or seek peace during encounters with NPCs. This emote serves as a non-verbal signal, indicating that you are willing to de-escalate a situation and avoid confrontation. What makes the "Hands Up" emote truly fascinating is that it can influence how NPCs react to your presence. Depending on several factors, NPCs may decide to cease their attacks, providing you with an opportunity to negotiate or escape. The outcome of using the "Hands Up" emote is not solely random; it depends on various factors, including:
-Reputation with NPC Faction: Your standing with the NPC faction plays a crucial role in determining whether they will respond positively to your gesture.
-Number of NPCs Defeated: If you've defeated other NPCs from the same faction, it might affect how they react to your gesture.
-Player Toughness: Player toughness is a new parameter, and we'll reveal more details in an upcoming Weekly News. It will help the game determine whether you are a seasoned player or a newcomer, impacting how NPCs perceive your actions.

We are trying to make NPCs part of the players gameplay, not just an obstacle or the means to make money. For that reason, NPCs would have a survival instinct, meaning that they will not storm the defense position without number superiority, and they will try to save themselves from You if You are a slaughter machine that erases the existence of NPCs. That is big work that we must do, but this would allow us to create a truly immersive game.

Crosshair? No-more!

To elevate the immersion and challenge of Lost Region, the development team has decided to bid farewell to the traditional GUI crosshair. This bold move is designed to provide players with a more authentic and immersive experience, encouraging you to rely on your instincts, aim, and precision when taking down your adversaries. Without the trusty crosshair to guide your shots, the shooting system has received a significant overhaul to ensure comfortable and precise aiming. The updated shooting mechanics will make targeting more realistic, requiring you to rely on the iron sights of your weapon. This means you'll need to hone your skills and adapt to various weapons, each with its unique feel and aiming characteristics. For players who still prefer having a visual aid for aiming, the development team has introduced an innovative solution โ€“ the Laser Sight. This nifty accessory attaches to your weapon, providing a visible laser beam to help you target your shots accurately. The laser sight aims to offer the best of both worlds, catering to those who miss the crosshair and those who want to keep the realism alive.

We are also planning to rework the damage that is inflicting right now. We already have different effects depending on which part of the body you are shooting at. We want to step aside from the parameter HP and create a more dynamic and realistic solution. Currently, we are working on the shots itself. As you know people are rarely dying from the shots, they are dying of wounds that were inflicted by those shots that is our current goal in short.

Weekly news. A little bit of optimization, a little bit of features.

Optimizations
As the Lost Region universe continues to grow and evolve, our development team is dedicated to ensuring that your gameplay remains smooth and immersive. With the addition of new locations and the expansion of existing ones, it's crucial that our open world is not only visually stunning but also performs optimally on a wide range of gaming systems.
The optimization process is a top priority for us. Here's a glimpse of what we're doing to ensure that you enjoy a seamless gaming experience in our expansive open world:
1. Streamlined Assets: Our team is diligently optimizing assets, removing any unnecessary elements to reduce the strain on your hardware.
2. Textures and Shaders: We're fine-tuning textures and shaders to strike the perfect balance between visual fidelity and performance.
3. Level-of-Detail (LOD) Systems: Implementing LOD systems ensures that objects in the distance are rendered at lower detail levels, helping maintain a high frame rate without sacrificing visual quality.
This is a routine stage that takes some time, but without it, it would be hard to play LR on PCs that are not mega machines.
Our goal was to give players constant interactions with points of interest, and for that, we need to improve the level design, moreover, we are making live levels that would have a story to tell if the player is interested in it, if not he can always just loot kill and go. The story behind levels would be different some are big with a reward at the end of level research and some are smaller with funny story parts and small but pleasant rewards. I've got a restriction to tell about those stories because of spoilers, but we are working hard to make them thrilling, interesting, and fun.

SOS
Survival in Lost Region is a thrilling challenge, but we're thrilled to introduce a game-changing feature that will add a new layer of realism, tension, and camaraderie to your solo adventures. Get ready for the SOS feature, a lifeline in the wilderness that will test your wit, timing, and reputation in the game. Players often find themselves facing difficult situations when traveling alone. Whether it's a sudden ambush, a shortage of supplies, or an overwhelming horde of foes, you no longer have to face these perils on your own. Thanks to the SOS feature, your cry for help can be heard by your friendly factions. As previously mentioned in our news blog, the SOS feature is tied to the walkie-talkie item. Players who possess a walkie-talkie will have the means to call for help. SOS is not a free pass to assistance. When you call for help, it comes at a cost. You will need to spend a portion of your hard-earned reputation points to request the assistance of your friendly faction. We are balancing the feature so that it will not be the all-time solution, further updates are coming in the next news blogs.
We are giving meaning to small items in the world. So eventually any scrap could become useful and every useful item could become scrap for becoming another useful item. Of course, it doesn't mean that you can find 5 walkie-talkies and constantly convert them to electronic scrap and backwards, yet every item could become something else. Also, we are planning to get rid of non-effective cheap craft weapons and cheap craft support items, there are a lot of things to scavenge, so there is no need to waste time for looting the rocks.

Small and wanted weekly news!

Small things that matter

A portion of realism for your eyes. In most survival games, there are a lot of things you can loot, and most of them are just materials in different forms, we also have a lot of things that you can convert to materials but we also want to add meaning to small items that you can find in the game, some of them still can be used in a different way. For instance, map, if don't have any you will not see the locations around, however, if your mercenary is local (perk that could occur) he will know some of the locations. Walkie-talkie, simple as that, enables you to speak with squad mates and use global chat. A pen, a very simple thing that will allow you to place markers on the map, or if you still don't have a map draw one by using pen and some paper. And of course, small combinations that are already common for players such as you need a can opener or a knife or a screwdriver to open a can.

We don't want to take players inventory slots so those small objects like map, walkie-talkie and other tools that are providing access to some UI element or grants social access will take their own slot for it, but they can be still be put in the backpack or pockets. Also don't forget that other players can take all this thing from you, so your map markers would be visible to others. Don't write your confidential information on those maps and notes. We are preparing another feature that will allow to stash items without living the location, for those who want to play all-in.

Most wanted

Faction will be able to place players who are bothering them too much on the most wanted board, meaning that other players would be able to earn some money (depending on the wanted player). But this feature doesn't finish there, since players could be aggressive to each other, those who are willing to pay will be able to put other players on this board. Unlike faction, players do need to meet some requirements to be able to put other players on the wanted board.
1. Player must commit a kill against another player merc.
2. Player must have enough money to pay the reward
3. Player who wants to place player on the wanted board can't be on the wanted board himself
Note that when we say player we do mean players mercenary.
There is a lot of work to be done, we also want to give players who are on the list to be able to negotiate, so the offended could still be compensated and players mercenary would not necessarily die. But still it is another social interaction that we are adding to the game, and there will be more. Our goal to make more social focuses on the game not buy just speaking on global chat or local chat but through game features. More coming soon.

WNR! Weekly news round here!

Returning to global events

In one of the previous weekly news round, we've shared some details regarding global events. We have returned to this feature to rebalance it a bit. Firstly new players will not be able to participate in such events until they've finished introduction missions and get some gear. The second change is that PMC would be placed in battle with other PMCs or if there are none with people who fight in the squad. These changes are crucial to control the PMC zerg rush on those events. Moreover, rewards would be granted depending on your outcome for the global event, meaning only winning would be rewarded. However, the losing side would be compensated a bit depending on the event itself and the reputation factor with the major faction. Since this is one of the milestones of the game we need to keep a close eye on this feature.

Solo players would not be left behind, the rewards that are distributed to PMC will consists the expensive elements that are needed to upgrade and improve the PMC, so one way or another PMCs would need to participate in these kind of events in order to become better. As for solo players they would need to achieve certain amount of victories in order to complete bare minimum of requirements to be rewarded. In order to get more rewards the side merc is fighting on should be a wining side, the more victories the player achieved the more would be the reward.

PMC in global events

Unlike solo players or regular players' squads, PMC participation in global event would be slightly more complicated. First of all in order to participate in global events as PMC someone with the needed permission needs to put the PMC in a global event round, which would unlock specific rewards for PMCs in case if they are on the winning side and they've actually done something to achieve this victory. However, in order to perform this action the PMC would need to have resources to sustain the operation, basically, PMC would need fuel and ammo to sustain the operation, which would be deposited once the operation is launched. The rewards would become bigger for PMCs, but only decent PMCs would be able to participate in this kind of event. Those who are not that tough would need to level up the PMC or participate in the event as a regular players squad or solo merc.

We do realize that PMCs could come to an agreement in order to receive more profit with minimum risks, it would be hard to do, those PMCs must be really powerful and be good relationship with each other. So in order to balance things out, PMCs would not be able to exchange resources with each other if they were battling each other during global event until next global event (which would be each week), so even if they think schemes those schemes would take much profit from them. And we are not going to cut those schemes since that is a social aspect of the game.

Autumn cleaning and weekly news!

Optimization round

There has been a lot of content added to the game and that is why we need to perform rounds of optimization. The optimization would be both graphical and code, during this period of time we will not develop any new features, only content will continue to be produced. The larger the map becomes the more often we need to return to optimization to ensure that thing called streaming will not be googled by our players. Along with optimizing, there would be a bug-fixing round which is also the reason for the pause in feature development. During this pause, we will confirm a vertical slice of all features that are now in game.

Big maps such as map in LR require some magic of optimizations, of course we are talking about old video cards and PCs that are running on HDD. We believe that SSD will become a standard of requirement one day but for now we do need optimize the game for old PCs. Thanks to technologies like DLSS this type of work become much easier in terms keeping the quality of the picture, but it still need some work.

Friends Squad

While game-play features are on pause social features continue to expand. If you have friends or people that you are always welcome to play with you can create an everlasting squad which would be free to access by your friends and they will be able to sign into squad automatically. This is a small user experience improvement that will save a couple of seconds of clicking. We are also working on some features regarding friends mercenaries, but can't share details right now. Social features would be one of the main focuses of the game, we it to feel like you are playing a coop game until you meet another coop gang.

We are working to give people an opportunity to hang out during game-play and have game-play during hangout. Also we will add open squads for people that are just searching to play with someone. These feature also unlock PMC open squads, which can both help PMC to find new recruits and players to earn some money from those PMCs. We will reveal the details of PMC recruits in upcoming updates after the optimization round.

It's Saturday my dudes!

Base

Players, as you know, also will have base. We will provide different variations for players to pick. After finishing the intro player would choose from 3 types of bases, every one of which would have its own bonuses. Hidden cave base would have an opportunity to have an additional entry spot on the global map, which would provide more flexible looting, but it would take more resources to build something in the cave as well and it would be more expensive to maintain the cave base. The second variant is the farm base which would provide food and water, the farm base would be the most balanced in terms of cost and maintenance, using this base players would less think about the base itself since the base is self-sufficient enough. The third is the industrial base. This is the best option for players who like to build and manage the base, the industrial base would be placed in an abandoned factory, which would provide additional production capacity, but this type of base would require fuel and electricity to be sufficient. The best option for crafting and building fans.

Players would be able to have only 1 operational base. This means that even though you could have more than one base, only one base would be active, since that is your HQ. In order to change the base player must have a vehicle that would transfer all the goods or enough money to buy such service. This way players can try different approaches for their HQ. In later updates, we will reveal the PMC HQs that will also have different focuses. The option to change PMC HQ would be present, but it would require a lot of resources to perform such action, but PMC would not be able to change the HQ very frequently.

Craft or buy

We are working to make craft not only the way to craft yourself something good but also the way to earn money. If you have merc who is good at crafting you would be able to advance his skills and as a result, he would be able to craft top-quality gear. That gear can't be bought from NPC traders, so the only way to obtain this kind of stuff is to craft or buy it from other players. Basically making mercs your most valuable assets, losing them would be a big no-no.

To create a value for such craftsman we will implement the proficiency quests for such mercenaries. Meaning that in order to unlock the next level of crafting you need to complete a proficiency quest. Early quests would be very light, but in late game those quests could end with losing the craftsman, so those who completed those quests would be able to craft very exclusive gear and earn big money. And we are thrilling to see free market in action since this kind of deals are not regulated by the LR world. Supply and Demand.
