De Wolfe Music jetted out to West Hollywood last week to accept an award as publisher of one of the most performed Aascap songs of 2023.

A huge nod to independent music, ‘Shake Sumn’ by published by De Wolfe Music, rose to become one of the most celebrated R&B tracks of the past 12 months.

It was a milestone night, with multi-platinum, Grammy-winning musician Usher picking up the Ascap Voice of the Culture Award. Meanwhile, Victoria Monét was awarded the ASCAP Vanguard Award, as Lil Baby earned his third Songwriter of the Year Award, as well as a nod for Leon Thomas.

Warren de Wolfe accepted the award on behalf of the team - and it’s safe to say, we’ll be celebrating this win in style (when he eventually jets back from the US).

June 6, 1944 - a date immortalised by the historic D-Day landings, widely considered to be the largest invasion to ever take place.

A turning point in World War II, the period saw the de Wolfe bloodline take to the skies above Europe. James de Wolfe, the son of De Wolfe Music 's founder, Meyer, enlisted in the Royal Air Force in 1942.

✈️ He became part of the renowned No.322 'Dutch' Squadron – a fighter squadron with missions spanning the anti V-1 campaign, reconnaissance operations over Germany and Belgium (seen here in Antwerp) and most notably, the D-Day landings.

James embodied the resilience and bravery that marked the era.

🎶 Following his return from war in 1946, James returned to his roots at De Wolfe Music, infusing fresh energy into the music publishing business. Over the next decade, he expanded De Wolfe Music beyond the UK’s borders, traveling to France, Italy, The Netherlands, and beyond.

💼 His suitcases filled with tapes and 78s, James established connections in film studios and the newly established television industry.

🎬 In the mid-50s, a lasting bond formed with Alfonso Corelli and Fred Jacobs, film editors from Paramount Pictures who co-founded "Corelli Jacobs". This relationship allowed De Wolfe Music to expand across North America, which is now better known as De Wolfe Music USA.

🎼 From the resilience shown in those wartime skies to the creative realms of film and television, De Wolfe Music has been sustainable throughout every major historical event. The company's journey encapsulates a century of musical evolution.

Join us as we celebrate those who fought for freedom, those who lost their lives, those who continue to share their memories in the hopes of a brighter tomorrow and to James, who's legacy comes in the form of a century of storytelling through sound.

If you haven’t yet seen ‘Challengers’, which rock have you been hiding under? 🎾

Supporting the likes of Sandy Shaw, Dusty Springfield, Dudley Moore and Elton John, Barbara Moore's instantly recognisable vocals capture an iconic era in De Wolfe Music's history.

Lending her vocal and arranging talents to iconic TV and radio themes, her library music compositions have earned a cult following around the globe. Battling adversity and outdated views, Moore held her own in the traditionally male-dominated music industry.

“If you’re doing library music, you’re very lucky to be doing it, because you get a variety of things all the time... Trouble is, you never have time to think about anything,” Barbara Moore 1932 - 2021

✨This International Women’s Day, we’re celebrating female composing talent ✨

De Wolfe composer Els Van Epen de Groot opted to write under the pseudonym Derek Laren in a bid to get her work published.

She went on to pen close to a hundred tracks for De Wolfe. From rousing brass themes to intense violin solos, Els created some of the most atmospheric tracks in our library.

Olive Turner is another such name, a female powerhouse who began composing for De Wolfe Music in 1933.

A Royal Academy of Music graduate, when not singing and composing, Turner was affectionally known as ‘Tuppence-a-page Olive’, working in the De Wolfe office as a copyist in the 1940s.

So, here’s to . Here’s to many more years of musical evolution. And here’s to leveling the playing field where the music industry’s gender gap is concerned.

This week saw the BAFTAs dominate headlines, with the who's-who of Hollywood taking to the red carpet in London to celebrate British cinematic achievements.

Forget Oppenheimer, The Holdovers remains our top pick from the bunch - and not simply because it took home two top awards and features a number of tunes from the De Wolfe back-catalogue. Da'Vine Joy Randolph claimed Best Supporting Actress, in addition to the Best Casting award.

The Holdovers also features Peter Millay (AKA Jack Trombey)'s track Chatter Box, while our recording of Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No.5 ranks up there as an indisputable classic.

Teacher Paul Hunham (Paul Giamatti) has something of a rigid attitude to academia. It's something his fellow teachers find exasperating, With no family and nowhere to go over Christmas holiday in 1970, Paul remains at school to supervise students unable to journey home.
