Another show done! What Is the City but the People? has happened for a sixth time, this time featuring the people of Sydney and located directly outside the Opera House as part of its 50th birthday celebrations.

150 locals from all over the city walked the giant yellow catwalk. Hundreds more photos were taken. Pages of text written. And everyone cried, which is how we know it worked.

Originally made for Manchester International Festival in 2017, from an idea by Jeremy Deller, and directed by Richard Gregory of Quarantine.

We are kicking off 2023 with creating eternal waves, sand, and lava effects for the latest play at Young Vic Theatre. What is described by The Guardian as "a breathtaking, watery beauty" is actually Notch VFX generated and disguise programmed projection that is controlled by the singer’s microphone. This way, the body of the island reacts, grows and moves in rhythm with the music as it spreads through the transitions and movement sequences!

We supplied the Notch and Disguise playback systems, as well as providing all design, development and programming services. Thanks for having us!

While working on Guardians of the Galaxy live immersive show we worked with Framestore and Disney StudioLab to create a real-time motion capture version of Rocket using Unreal Engine. It was amazing seeing people dropping their drinks and screaming when Rocket started talking to them, and they realised it’s not just another pre-record 🙈 Have a look at the sample of the outcome! Saying that creating a real-time mocap version of Rocket and recreating a bit of MCU in London is something we are extremely grateful for would be an understatement. Have a look behind the scenes of this galactic journey where we worked alongside Framestore and Walt Disney Studios to create immersive Secret Cinema show like never before.

Using Unreal Engine we created bridge between Holywood blockbusters and live immersive shows.

Using Unity we gave life to the physical set using various interactive video elements.

A huge applause to everyone involved in this, you are legends! 💫

Watch Ian, Steph, and Dabs explain the immersive wizardry behind our almost year-long project where opera meets electronic music, motion capture digital avatar, and bleeding edge gaming technologies - all combined into an interactive video installation. In collaboration with BitterSuite and Kansallisooppera - Finnish National Opera Violet Disruption as an activist, electronic musician and hyper-deity for survivors of sexual violence presents you DIVA - an ambisonic cleansing of the opera space.

One of the highlights of last year was creating DIVA - an ambisonic audio-visual installation and takeover of Kansallisooppera - Finnish National Opera. A big part of this was Overture - an 8 minute long motion capture Unreal Engine sequence where DIVA floods the auditorium with electronic music, that collides the hauntingly beautiful worlds of operatic divas of the past together with driven and psychedelic electronic dance music.

In the summer we did some quite crazy things at our studio including these Unreal Engine mocaping and flying sessions with Georgia and Joshua for Violet Disruption Opera Beyond project. A.K.A digitalisation of humans using a rig/workflow that Salvador and Jáchym built. Sharing more of this creative journey soon!

This is our 9th time working with Secret Cinema and as usual there’s not much we can show and tell as it’s all secret! All we can tell you is this - we were working with Framestore on a racoon, and the show is totally amazing!

Some numbers for context - 9 disguise media servers, 45 screens (some might even be transparent LG Global), NDI for days, 200 pixel tubes, 6 iPads, 9 iPhones, 4 custom mobile apps,…

We teamed up with DuranDuran to freshen up their video content for their BST Hyde Park 2022 headliner performance. Using everything from Adobe tools, Unreal Engine environments, and Notch VFX live magic - in only two weeks we made a few completely new visuals and adjusted some of their original content, in the end delivering 20 visuals that fit the massive Great Oak Stage 🌳

Take a behind the scenes look at TRAPLORD at 180 The Strand

Playing with themes of quests, escapism and immersive worlds, we produced an entire videogame quest for the world of Traplord in Unreal Engine, navigating our central character around dream-like worlds and envionments. This was combined with filmed XR footage, traditionally animated retro-arcade elements and hand-drawn animation to create a rich framing device for the show, with the content being displayed on a semitransparent video wall.

Alcina Jungle 🏝 Made in Unreal Engine for Opera North

We created a full-scale photorealistic island in UnrealEngine. Then we were able to film all necessary clips in the virtual environment, custom-tailored for the needs of the opera. No need to travel to a jungle! 🙌
