In this latest campaign from our wonderful clients, WDC, they are campaigning against the cruel exploitation of keeping whales and dolphins in small tanks and sea pens just to entertain tourists.

Did you know that 60% of UK children believe dolphins should not be kept in captivity for our entertainment? So before you add visiting a dolphin show to your family's holiday to-do list this summer, have a chat with your kids.

Keeping whales and dolphins in captivity is wrong and denies them the ability to travel and socialise and live their natural lives.

We stand with Whale and Dolphin Conservation and say no to dolphin shows. Let's make this a cruelty-free summer!

About 3,500 whales and dolphins are suffering in small tanks around the world just to entertain tourists.

More Can Happen! - Meet the team ๐Ÿ‘‹

We are very pleased to introduce Lukas Kirsch, the newest addition to our growing team.

Coming all the way from Oregon, Lukas has joined us on an internship as an Account Executive and will be with us for the next 10 weeks whilst simultaneously continuing his studies in Business/Finance here in the UK.

โ€œI joined MCH London because they have core values of responsibility and ethics, and work with charities I am fond of. A very friendly and welcoming team was an added bonus! Iโ€™m looking forward to spending the next few months working alongside some great role models at MCH and growing as a person and colleague!โ€

Lukas will be helping us with a broad range of different tasks including work on charity propositions, newsletter campaigns and supporting our senior staff on our ambassador programme.

We were really interested to see Anna Lungley, Chief Sustainability Officer, International Markets at Dentsu for World Economic Forum speaking around our long-held belief that Marketing departments play a hugely important role in the race to Net Zero and in encouraging consumers to make more sustainable decisions ๐Ÿค

The marketing function currently falls behind other divisions in driving sustainable business practices.

While 51% of people in corporate strategy are already executing against their sustainability plan and measuring progress, only 34% in marketing report being at this stage of progress.

Some companies were pushed to focus on digital solutions just to survive.

As the world is opening up more and more, we still see consumers continuing their new, more digitalised purchasing habits..
. but many are still eager to return to their old habits..

Many consumers lack trust in brands and their advertising, due to missing transparency from the brandโ€™s side and a natural skepticism based on the many uncreable messages consumers have to sort through each day.

In 2020 the UK online advertising market grew by 5% to a total of ยฃ16.5 billion.

The possibilities are many, but so are the challenges - up to 12% of this business may have contributed to ad fraud, much would have been alongside misinformation and some would have funded hate speech.

A responsible approach to advertising can help decrease the mistrust and increase transparency and keep your brand safe online.

Sustainability done badly is just another add-on for a campaign.

More often than not, brands seek short-term approval from customers when there is no real purpose or substance in their sustainability message.

Peopleโ€™s attitudes are changing towards sustainability and wanting to do good for the environment. It is a part of what modern consumers care about.

The use of social media has become a standard practice in the way brands can advertise their goods and services and how they communicate with their consumers. According to Statista (2020), 75% of SMEs use social media for marketing purposes.

And with reason: 77.9% of the UK population uses social media, and the average user time spent is 109 minutes on social media platforms per day. With Facebook being the most popular choice for SMEs, followed closely by Instagram. Both channels have high user activity. Another increasingly popular channel is TikTok, which despite being fairly new, is expected to research 12.5 million UK users by 2024 (Statista, 2021).

The audience is there, and they are listening, but how do brands make sure that they also act responsibly towards their consumers on social media?

Honesty, transparency, respect, and fairness are on this list.

Brands need to be forthright and dealings and offer value and integrity to their followers, be transparent about what is going on in the organisation, avoid manipulation, including false information and advertising, and be respectful of their follower's needs, values and views.

A lot has changed in the way people think about brands.

Brand responsibility is becoming more important in today's society with increased numbers of consumers who are willing to pay more for goods and services that come from responsible brands.

People are looking towards brands they can trust, and responsible marketing can build strong and long-lasting relationships between brands and their fans.

However, making responsible decisions regarding advertising can be very challenging as โ€˜brand responsibilityโ€™ still remains a little undefined and we're just starting to understand the extent to which consumers are even thinking about it.

We at MCH are eager to find out much more, and have put Emilie Tornรธe to the task.
