After a thrilling and eventful year filled with festivals, numerous nominations (including Best British Short), and awards (Best Proof Of Concept), Ortolan is now ready for its online premiere.

Working with creator Kate Winter and director Tracy Mathewson has truly been an amazing experience. It's been a pleasure to shape the soundscape of the mushroom trip 🌈 story with the help of sound designer Izaak Buffin and composer Joe Murgatroyd.

The exciting news is that this is just the beginning. A feature-length film is in the works, aligning smoothly. As we gather more psychedelics 🍄 for the next venture, promising a full 90-minute experience, you can now watch Ortolan by following the link below.

After 'California' successful run on the film festival circuit during which it collected bunch of awards, we have been again working with director Tracy Mathewson on her next project - ORTOLAN. Together with writer Kate Winter and the rest of the crew, we have all made something really special.

Check out the trailer. It's definitely one of our favourite projects we have worked on, especially from the sound design point of view.

Huge thanks to sound designer Izaak Buffin for coming on board and helping to shape the soundtrack and Joe Murgatroyd for nailing the score.

From director comes this beautiful short little story that has taken film festivals by storm over the last couple of years. They have been so impressed that most of them awarded 'California' with their top prizes 🏆

“When you submit your film to us, we don't care really if it's a drama, or a thriller, or a documentary. In fact, we quite like to be able to show a lot of all of those if we can. We don't necessarily need your film to be super commercial, or mega experimental. But we know that there's an audience within the people who attend our events for all of those things.”

“One of my pet peeves as a festival manager I have is, we get your film in, we reached out to you, you've made the work of submitting, probably spend some money, putting promo materials together and everything. Here's your free ticket, invite your friends. And then they don't do anything. There's no kind of investment in this opportunity that we're providing. That's just so disheartening for me."

“A lot of filmmakers I speak to will come to me and say, how can I get my film into your festival? And I say, well I don't know, not really sure. It has to be really good for a start, I have to really want to see it, but it also kind of has to fit in with everything else and that's not something I can predict for you like a year and a half out.”

“Sometimes you go to a festival and you see a film that you don't like. And you wonder how did they programme that, why didn't my film get in, but this one did? Well, that's because you've got different tastes, and some people might like it. This would go really well with this other film that we're showing, and we can make a little strand out of it.”

“Knowing what a festival programmer wants is really only part of the battle. It’s like a festival committee might turn around and say, this is the kind of thing on paper that we want to see. But what they can screen or what works in a programme is very much dependent on what's out there for them to programme.”

Recently we worked on 'Obscenities'. Short comic mini-series made by Venetia Twigg and Will Nash. 3 episodes that follows South London women as they battle workmates, musical divas and their own bodily functions in the pursuit of the ultimate ambitions. It's on a virtual tour around the UK and streamed until 1st of May.
