Spectral transmissions Episode 06: Peripheral Visions

In the sixth episode of Spectral Transmissions, as the shadows start to lengthen we turn our minds to the place where the street lights end. Out here on the periphery, flickering visions and half heard noises scuff our logic with their insistent truancy. Fragments of things unbound by our narrow grasping.

“On cold winter nights we would occasionally perceive a strange glimmering of lights, a marked pulsating luminosity in the very edges of our vision accompanied by a vibrant oscillating frequency of sound, taking in certain cases, the form of bright circular waves, which seem to move from out on the periphery inward towards the centre, but if we tried to look directly at them to see them more clearly they evaded us, seeming to drift and fade, dissipating like so much smoke. “

The days and nights around the night of October 17 (2019), the night when the impossible came true.

My consciousness left, scattered in the protesting crowd, and I went swimming in/between fantasy and agony.

All the feelings I had in a dream manifeso before my eyes

I evoke images, sounds, smells, and sensations of a night

Of which I remember nothing, but fire, smiles, and blood.

Furious voices, the sound of blazes, and the noise of the crowd

The feeling of constant thirst dominated me as I walked through the streets

I don't want to reach a specific place; I cannot stand in one place.

I have to see everything, retain all the scenes

So that I never forget it

Imagine a radio station that sounds different every day...

Today marks the beginning of an epic 100-day long radio marathon in which 100 artists each present a 22-hour long radio work as part of Radio Art Zone. The project was initiated by our friends Sarah Washington and Knut Aufermann of Mobile Radio for Esch, Capital of Culture 2022. The broadcasts are available to listen through Radio Ara on 87.8FM in South Luxembourg or through the live online stream here: https://radioart.zone

It is this mantra, sublimely interpreted within Alice Coltrane’s track Deva Deva, that I wanted to be the focus for my mix.
The state of the world right now is beyond words. I hope that the music within this mix can remind us all to hold onto Love and show us that it still exists.
The first hour I have collated artists who inspire me to continue to look to the light. The last half is my Mother’s Blood album.
I believe it is the power of creativity that unites us all in life. I dedicate this mix to the people of the Ukraine and to world peace."
