According to estimates from BAFTA's sustainability programme, the carbon output of TV production decreased by more than half in 2021.

There are indications that the industry's efforts to engineer CO2 emissions out of the production chain are succeeding, even though a large portion of this reduction was caused by forced production shutdowns.

All in all, this research is highlighting the necessity—and viability—of taking additional steps to remove carbon from the production process at the source. That means that it is the responsibility of media companies to take into account the effects of all supply chain elements, which are classified as Scope 3 emissions by the global greenhouse gas protocol.
