Here's the latest video in our short series, A Picture Paints A Thousand Words, and it's James Holland choosing one of his favourite Second World War photographs. Today, James has got us looking at this image of a 10-year-old Russian boy called Nikolai Pankov, whose story is quite extraordinary. James explains how his parents were killed and he was subsequently adopted by another Russian who was captured and then fought for the Germans, taking Nikolai with him to the front line. This photograph was taken in Normandy on 17th August 1944. #WeHaveWays #SecondWorldWar
Here is the latest in our series of A Picture Paints A Thousand Words videos. Al Murray is in charge once again today and he's got us looking at this image of an Avro Manchester in flight. It leads the lads to discuss that while this aircraft might have been a case of 'If at first you don't succeed...' it's also important to remember that it was used operationally and isn't just a failed prototype. #WeHaveWays #SecondWorldWar
Time for the latest instalment in our series, A Picture Paints A Thousand Words, and it's James Holland's turn to choose one of his favourite Second World War photographs. Up for inspection today is this incredibly atmospheric photograph of a group of soldiers coming through the fog. James explains how these are battle-hardened members of the 43rd Wessex Division heading towards the River Seine. #WeHaveWays #SecondWorldWar
It's about time for the latest offering in our series, A Picture Paints A Thousand Words, and it's once again Al Murray's turn to choose one of his favourite Second World War photographs. Today we've got an image of a StuG III in a huge field of wheat that was taken during Operation Barbarossa. This photograph leads the lads to discuss how we were already seeing the Germans having to cut corners with their kit. On top of that Al points out some indicators that show the Germans had bitten off more than they could chew by invading the Soviet Union. #WeHaveWays #SecondWorldWar
Today we bring you episode 27 in our series, A Picture Paints A Thousand Words, and it's back to Al Murray to choose one of his favourite Second World War photographs. The time has finally come and Al Murray is taking us back to Arnhem with today's image. We're looking at a powerful photograph showing the men from Nos. 15 & 16 Platoons, 'C' Company dug in during the Battle of Arnhem on Wednesday 20th September 1944. #WeHaveWays #SecondWorldWar
Time for the latest instalment of our short series, A Picture Paints A Thousand Words, and it's back to James Holland to choose one of his favourite Second World War photographs. Today we're looking at a particularly special image for James, as it's what he used on the cover of Normandy '44. It features two soldiers from the Royal Scots Fusiliers in the village of Manvieu. It was taken during the early stages of Operation Epsom on 26th June 1944 and was their first day of combat. #WeHaveWays #SecondWorldWar
Welcome along to the next video in our short series, A Picture Paints A Thousand Words, and it's Al Murray choosing one of his favourite Second World War photographs. With Al in charge we're back on the topic of tanks, this time looking at an image of a Comet. The photograph was taken at Wesel towards the end of the war and leads the lads to discuss how the Comet was the pinnacle of British tank development. #WeHaveWays #SecondWorldWar
