The Story of Yasuke: The Black Samurai

Yasuke was a man of African origin who arrived in Japan in the 16th century. He is said to have been brought by a Jesuit missionary, and his imposing presence and skills quickly caught the attention of Oda Nobunaga, one of the most powerful daimyo of the time. Nobunaga welcomed him into his court, where Yasuke became his bodyguard and a respected samurai.

Yasuke excelled in battle and was known for his loyalty. His story is a symbol of the plurality and cultural impact that existed in Japan, even in those times.

Little know fact that Scotsman Wayne Bruce (descendant of Robert the Bruce) was the inspiration for The Batman Comics, Wayne who would wear a disguise and used his inheritance to take on criminals in the 1880s, this is also why Glasgow was used to depict Gotham in the Batman films as a homage to the true origin story👍❤️😳

That's some fight Andy Bowen of New Orleans (1867-94) and Jack Burke (Texas, 1869-1913) at New Orleans, Louisiana, USA on 6 April 1893. It lasted 110 rounds, 7 hr 19 min (9:15 p.m.-4:34 a.m.), and was declared a no contest (later changed to a draw).

The longest fight in history captured the attention and admiration of boxing enthusiasts worldwide with its unprecedented display of endurance and determination. Lasting for an incredible 110 rounds over seven hours and 19 minutes, this battle of wills tested the physical and mental limits of both fighters. The sheer craziness and unbelievable stamina exhibited during the match left spectators in awe, with some even succumbing to sleep from the sheer exhaustion of witnessing such a remarkable display of sportsmanship. This extraordinary event will undoubtedly live on in the book of boxing history.

Did you know. David Ross who plays Boycie's farm manager Elgin in "Green Green Grass" also played the original Kryten the robot in Red Dwarf. It was a one off character in S2E1, but when they wanted to bring the character back full time in series 3 he had stage commitments, so Robert Llewellyn got the job. (As a consolation David did the voice of Talkie The Toaster. 😊)
The scene where the crew meet Kryten is one of my all time favourite comedy scenes. The way Kryten continually struggles to accept his crew members are dead is hilarious. And his sadness at the end is brilliant acting.
