Updated: 1700, 20 January 2023 Storm Isha The Met Office have issued an AMBER weather warning for very strong winds ahead of Storm Isha arriving tomorrow, Sunday, 21 January. Winds of 70-80mph are expected in places, which could blow trees and other large items on to the railway.

Johnstone Sound is a non profit online community radio service for Johnstone. We have a great team of around 15 dedicated volunteers who help with the operation of the station.
We are now in our 5th year and moving forward with new and exciting plans to get the station on DAB+ in Renfrewshire.
But we can’t do it with out the help from you.

It costs several thousands of pounds to keep the station on air every year and we really need the help of the local listeners and local businesses in order to keep us on air , serving the local community.

We are currently running a fundraising campaign to raise vital funds to help keep us on air.

Initially we are trying to raise £500 which will help us for the next few months.

Campaign groups have been marking the one year anniversary of the knife attack in a Glasgow hotel that had left six people injured which included a police officer.

The attacker had been shot dead by police during the incident last year, and with this the campaign group refugees for justice had called for an inquiry into the decision to house the asylum seekers in hotels like this.

Although the home office had said that it was completely necessary to house the asylum seekers in temporary accommodation like this during the pandemic.

On Saturday the group had gathered in Glasgows George square to mark the anniversary, and the service contained flowers being laid down, lighting candles and reading poems.

The organiser of the event pinar aksu had said that the current system for housing refusgees was a “hostile environment” for them.

Story 2.

An individual has died after being hit by a train in paisley, and it is believed to have taken place on the line between Glasgow central and paisley canal.

Paramedics rushed to the scene at around 12.30pm on Friday but the person was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have launched an investigation and are currently looking into the circumstances around the incident and officers are currently trying to establish their identity.

With this scot rail has informed people who are travelling to expect delays around the mosspark, crookston, hawkhead and paisley canal stations.

And finally, a cancer support foundation and charity in elderslie has received 3 thousand pounds thanks to a group of high school pupils.

Eight teams of pupils from Renfrew high are studying religious, moral and philosophical studies had battled with each other in a competition to win the cash prize for their chosen charity.

Their teacher katie Rutherford had said It was such a fantastic night and each of our groups gave an amazing presentation to the judges.

“I think the winning team were chosen because their presentation was really emotive and they researched the charity really well.

Story 1.

A coronavirus gender gap has recently came to the spotlight as the latest number of positive cases in the previous 24 hours has reached nearly 3 thousand in Scotland.

In the past few days around two thirds of new cases in the age range between 15 and 44 have been male.

Many high ranking figures believe that younger men gathering to watch the euro 2020 is indeed behind the new rise in cases.

Public health expert professor linda bauld has said that it may be too early to link the high number of cases in the male population the football but she did say it should be investigated further.

These new cases which coincide with a much higher rate of testing is actually higher than the previous record in the early days of January which was at the highest point of the second wave.

Story 2.

A johnstone mother has attacked her sons nursery school after the child was allowed to leave the facility and walk home without the teachers knowledge.

Courtney shanks son Daniel attends the west johnstone early learning and childcare centre and had appeared at their front door after leaving the building which caused him to cross to extremely busy roads.

The boy had informed his mother that he was being bullied by another pupil in the school and decided that he wanted to go home.

A spokesperson from Renfrewshire council had said that “The safety of children in our establishments is of paramount importance.”

And finally, a film crew has been spotted at the woodside crematorium in paisley on Wednesday morning.

Many of the crew members are keeping very quiet and will not reveal any information when approached by journalists and members of the public.

A resteraunt in paisley has been taking a stand against people who tend to make multiple bookings and do not attend the premises.

With this the resteraunt has now started to impose a 50 pound deposit system after being left frustrated with the mount of people who do not show up to their bookings.

According to the staff they had been putting up with the situation over and over since restrictions were eased and a table of 12 not showing up was what prompted the new change for the resteraunt.

Assistant manager Rachel Hunter said: “We didn’t really want to resort to taking deposits.

“But when the 12 did not show up, that was it.”



Story 2.

A teenager has been fined 420 pounds and ordered to undertake 80 hours of unpaid work with this year, after police discovered hundreds of pounds worth of co***ne in his pockets.

Ross laurie aged 19 had gotten abusive and aggressive towards police officers who were giving out fixed penalty notices to individuals gathering at a housing estate in johnstone.

When police took him into custody, they had found five grams of co***ne on his possession, suspected to be worth between 300 and 500 pounds.

He had pleaded guilty to behaviting and threatening in an abusive manner, where he had shouted and swore at the offcers. And he also admitted to the possession of the drugs.

Thousands of fans had travelled from Scotland to the capital to support the team despite current covid restrictions.

There had been a large police presence in London and Glasgow as the celebrations took place, the met police also said 30 peple had been arrested in London but none were made in George square.

Story 1.

Hospital visiting in tayside has been restricted after there has been a rapid rise in covid cases in the region in recent weeks.

The nhs health board in the area has reintroduced further restrictions for its facilities, which means at the moment paitents can only receive one visitor.

The city of Dundee currently has the highest covid rate in the country, with nearly 279 cases per 100,000 people, with more than 1 thousand students self isolating.

There is to be added testing centres set up in Menzieshill and Douglas areas in Dundee as well as Dundee international sports centre.

Across Scotland, there have been 1, thousand and 30 new cases had been reported yesterday with two deaths.

Story 2.

Police have launched an investigation and are searching for a man who had stolen a car from a street in paisley.

The car which police believe to be a ford fiesta ST had been stolen from Montgomery road in the gallowhill area of the town at around 2.15am on Friday morning.

Police have also said the the stolen car has a number 14 registration plate, and they have urged anyone with information to please contact them as soon as possible by calling the 101 number.

And finally, a Johnston man has set up his own distillery which focuses on selling gin in a can, and at the moment business is booming for the entrepreneur.

The engineering graduate luke Cochrane, who is a former pupil at st benedicts high school, had came up with the idea when doing a six month work placement with digeo drinks company two years ago.

The entrepreneur had also worked in the hospitality industry as abraman and a waiter, decided that one day he would want to make his own alcohol.

The company also sells precision spirits in the capital which makes their own craft gine from a still they had bought for a few hundred pounds.

Story 1.

A police investigation has been launched after a fire was started deliberately at a nursery in Renfrewshire.

This took place at Hillview nursery in backstoun road in paisley at around quearter to 9 on Friday evening.

Police had discovered that things like tyres from the play area on the nurseries grounds were moved and put underneath a storage container before it was set on fire.

Scottish fire and rescue service put the fire out at the nursery before anyone was seriously injured in the attack.

Enquries into the situation are currently ongoing and police are eager to speak to anyone who may have information.

Story 2.

A man has been brought to hospital following an alleged ausalt that happened in Renfrew on Saturday night.

Emergency crews had bee called to the scene shortly after the attack happened at around 5.45pm on Saturday night.

Ambulance and emergency service had attended the scene and the individual was rushed to the royal Alexandria hospital in paisley for treatment on his injuries.

Although, it has been reported that he has been released from hospital. But police enquiries into the assault are still ongoing.

And finally, members of the johnstone brass band have had success at the capitol cory online brass band chamionships gaining third place in the competition.

The band had not been able to meet in person together as a band for more than a year because of the pandemic but they are still competing online.

The band who compete in the first section, also got the prize for the best cornet section in the event.

Chair of the band said “ Everyone in the band recorded an individual video at home, mostly using their own mobile phones, and it’s been exciting to see the performance put together online.”

Story 1

A teenage boy has died after he was discovered from a river in the Renfrewshire area.

Officers from police Scotland arrived at the scene in river gryfe near auchans farm at around 6.50 pm, and the boy was brought from the water to the royal Alexandria hospital for children in Glasgow where he remained in critical condition until his death.

Police Scotland have said We were made aware of a teenage boy in the River Gryfe near to Auchans Farm around 6.50pm on Wednesday, June 2.

The boy was recovered from the water and was taken to the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow where he died on Saturday, June 5, 2021.

"Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances."

Police Scotland are launching an investigation after a man had been attacked in the paisley area by a group of youths on Friday night.

Emergency crews were called to the scene at Neilston road, near lapsey avenue where a 40 year old man was seriously attacked at around 9.30 pm.

The is said to have sustained very serious injuries to his face and head and following the incident was taken to the royal Alexandria hospital in paisley for treatment on his injuries.

The suspects are said to have ran into the direction of paisley town centre following the attack and officers are appealing for anyone who may have saw anything to please come forward.

And finally, millions of residents in Scotland have now moved into a further lower level of covid restrictions which is allowing them to meet up in larger groups indoors and outside.

In Glasgow, Saturday marked the first time people were allowed into eachothers homes for the first time on nine months and are also allowed to drink alcohol in pubs and resteraunts.

Although these 13 areas across the central belt with a population of 2.3 million will remain in level two rather than level one which was originally planned, this is due to high case numbers.
