For those of you have known me over the years, will know I have a fascination for collecting the unusual. I then add them to my stock and find a use for them at a later date
I went to an Auction some 25 years ago at Freeport out of town Shopping Centre near Livingston as they got rid of all their kit haven gone into Liquidation. Everything was for sale from Kitchen & Canteen fixture and fittings, to outside activity toys and even a life size Steam Engine from the days of the Coal Pits that were aplenty in the area
I bought plenty including a Giant walkabout mascot called Big Calder that walked the site in better days
You couldn’t collect your purchases till the next day after the sale was finished. We turned up paid our money and joined the collection. When we get to the front we find out that The Mascot has been taken by some scallywag and had vanished
We go back to tell the cashier and was told to bad, your not getting your money back - we did eventually but that is a story in itself for my forthcoming book
Fast forward to Monday 22nd January 2024, I’m sitting watching The Travelling Auctioneer on The BBC and they are selling the contents of some Old Clown Guys collection - yes you’ve guessed it there is my Old Pal Big Calder
As all these programme fall foul of the big tale, we are told how The Old Clown had bought this at The Freeport Auction. And he will be heartbroken in parting with it, Bla, Bla, Bla
How you get found out!
Just for fun I will share my story with The Auctioneer from Wilson Auction House, with the TV production company and my extensive list of friends to this day in The Clowning World
The story to me is worth more than the lost revenue of 25 years
The book “ I started off with very little, and 50 years later I have most of it left “ will be released when everybody I mention in the said book have passed away to that big stage in the sky
