😥Very sad news today. At BN5 we were incredibly fond of John White, he was one of a kind - a true Sussex farmer and a gentleman who loved the land and had some wonderful stories to tell. 💙
:
Please see below a message from John's family. We welcome happy memories of John and messages of condolence for his family on this post, which we will share with them. However, we respectfully request that you do not share, screenshot or publish this post elsewhere, for reasons of family privacy. Thank you for your understanding.
:
"As a family we are heartbroken to announce the passing of John White, a beloved Father to Tim, Grandfather to Charmaine and Great-Grandfather to Charlie, Ella & Poppy. He passed away peacefully at home on Friday 5th July at the age of 90.
We will forever cherish the memories of him and his love for being outdoors on his tractor, his favourite place to be. A well-known market gardener, he was a third generation supplier of fresh vegetables to the local community.
He was a very much loved and respected personality in Henfield, and he will be missed by many. As a family, we will miss him dearly and appreciate your support during this time of grief. We take comfort in knowing he is now at peace with his dearly beloved wife Kathleen and son Andrew."
:
We loved taking these photos back in 2007, especially the one of John by the bench in memory of his beloved son, Andrew. As you will see from the more recent photo taken by his granddaughter, he hadn't changed a bit, despite his health challenges.
:
Rest in peace, John. One of a kind. 💙

Isn’t this just the best?! 🤩
Thank you FareShare Sussex & Surrey for supporting the Henfield Haven, as you discovered, nothing is wasted and it’s all hugely appreciated! 🥰
❗️UPDATE:
A HUGE thank you 🙏 from The Henfield Shed members for your kind messages and brilliant ideas! Reference the Tanyard application; we've just found out that the planning department at Horsham District Council is still accepting comments! 🙌
Please take 5 mins to send your comments on the application by following this link, it really will make a difference! ✅

:
😔Things are looking bleak for the The Henfield Shed. After pursuing around 20 potential leads, volunteers from the The Henfield Shed are still actively and now URGENTLY seeking a new home! 🏠
:
With their planning application for the renovation of the abandoned Tanyard Building facing opposition from a small but vocal minority, and imminent removal from their High Street rented workshops, the future is not looking at all bright and they are facing the worrying possibility that the group could close for good.
:
They would dearly love some alternative options. At BN5 we know how crucial the Henfield Shed is to our village. It helps many people who would otherwise be lonely and isolated, and offers essential support to people who are bereaved or may not have local friendship groups. Those who run the group have deep concerns for several of their members who will be left with nothing if they can’t visit the Shed for friendship, purpose and laughter in their lives.
:
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
We would love to hear from you if you have a small area of land which may be suitable for a temporary building. Or you may have some old stables or outbuildings, or an old workshop or double garage you no longer use.
:
The Shedders will need running water and toilet facilities, heat and light. Other than that, their needs are not extensive. They are able to offer reasonable but not commercial levels of rental income to someone who will help, and are extremely good neighbours and tenants, too.
:
We call upon local groups and organisations to get behind the Shedders, give them their moral and practical support and help to keep them in the village.
:
We are getting DANGEROUSLY close to losing a quite incredible organisation from our village, and it’s unlikely to return if it closes. These are desperate times, please don’t let this happen! If you have ANY suggestions, ideally offers of help on land or property of your own, please email [email protected] or contact Pete Gumbrell on 07770 935709.
Thank you 🙏
Well, Henfield - in true 'whatever the weather' style you turned out in droves to support the BP Guild Henfield Summer Fair on the King's Field on Saturday! Thank you for your support! 🙌
Well done to the volunteers who braved gale-force winds and low-flying marquees, as well as torrential rain in the morning, to bring some 'summer' entertainment - in the end the sun DID come out, the beer almost sold out and Hawthorn Veterinary Surgeries were inundated with beautiful pooches all floofed up for the dog show!
We can't mention all the participating stalls without fear of missing some out, but huge thanks to everyone who made the effort to bake, fundraise, serve pints, flip burgers, judge dog shows, compere, sell raffle tickets, and MOST OF ALL - come along and spend your hard-earned cash on some local charitable causes!
More photos on our website later today, and in August BN5 magazine. Excellent work, everyone! 👏👏👏

There are lots of fun things happening at the Henfield Summer Fair this Saturday, and the of Dreams Sussex are also participating - see here for their list of events with times 👇
Hands-up,🤚we admit it; we have favourites here at BN5. 🤓
The BP Guild Henfield rank pretty high up on that list.... and they're putting so much work into the Henfield Village Fair this Saturday 15 June!
☀️Whatever the weather this weekend PLEASE pop along and support this lovely event; we've heard lots of noise on social media about bringing back the Henfield Village Fair, and the BP Guild are going to bring you some of that magic! ✨
It's not taking place on Henfield Common (because that organisational feat needs more than just one group to lead it) - but it's at what we think is a perfect venue, with Henfield Leisure Centre next door and Henfield Football Club and Henfield Youth Club also close by, on the King's Field.
Find out more on page 36 of June BN5 magazine, and see you there! 🙌

Impeccable organisation by Henfield Parish Council, and a great turnout as always.
The only sound was birdsong during the silence. 🌺

So, while the High Street was busy with Sainsbury’s opening yesterday, there was an even lovelier opening taking place at the Henfield Haven; the new Sensory Garden, especially built for high needs customers to enjoy! 🥰 Here’s a short & sunny clip of Rohan cutting the ribbon, watched by the Garden Team who did all the hard work creating this very special space. More thank yous and photos to follow! 🙌 Henfield Parish Council Horsham District Council
Another reason to be proud of our village! 🫶 Thank you for all the wonderful donations for the shipment to Ukraine which left Corpus Christi Catholic Parish, Henfield yesterday. We especially love the stunning hand-knitted blankets, hours of work and love have gone into these, a huge thank you to the generous knitters who made them. We know they will be appreciated.🥰 Some incredible donations, including torches, food, toiletries and warm clothing, all destined for areas which are under continual bombardment. Well done to Celia and all the volunteers involved, and to everyone in Henfield who continues to support our friends in Ukraine. 🔥Thank you to the amazing BP Guild Henfield and Henfield Parish Council for the Beacon lighting event - what a perfect evening! 🇬🇧
😁*Sound on for this one* 😁 This video was taken by Hope and Aid Direct - the charity that YOU in Henfield have generously donated to via Celia and her team at Corpus Christi Catholic Parish, Henfield. The aid sent recently is shown being un-loaded at the Ukraine border, Henfield parcels can be clearly seen behind the volunteer. A MASSIVE THANK YOU 👏👏👏 to everyone who donated! Don't forget there's another shipment leaving soon - deadline for donations is tomorrow (Good Friday) at Midday.
💙💛A huge thank you to these brilliant volunteers and everyone who donated! 💙💛 The lorry has now left for the Hope and Aid Direct depot in Essex, from there all your donations, safely sorted and packed in banana boxes by the Corpus Christi Catholic Parish, Henfield volunteers, will be sent very shortly to Poland for distribution to Ukrainian refugees. Celia is keeping us updated on a possible further collection / shipment, she is in close contact with Hope and Aid and we'll pass on the message as soon as we know more and what's needed. We'll also update you when Stokes of Henfield are ready for donations for their next shipment too.
