Hello everyone!

The Queen Mary History Journal is officially seeking submissions for our Spring MODERNITY issue. Please email your essays to our Head Editor, Tammy, at [email protected] by Friday 14th February at the latest.

---

We welcome research essays which explore any aspect of modernity, anything related to or reacting against the notion of progress or the ‘modern’ across periods and geographies you’ve studied at QMUL.

If you’re unsure about your essay, and how much it fits the theme, send it to us anyway! We accept submissions from all undergraduates within the School of History and this is a great opportunity to get your work published in an officially recognised undergraduate journal (think CV, job and postgraduate applications, personal pride).

All essays will be considered for publication, those who do not make the print journal will be published on our blog with your permission. There is also the opportunity to speak alongside peers and our guest speaker at our March launch event. If you have any queries please contact Nicole, Editor-in-chief, at [email protected] or [email protected]

We look forward to reading your essays soon!

All the best,
The Queen Mary History Journal

For all our first year History students, the PASS mentoring scheme is a great opportunity to seek extra guidance and support from second, third and fourth year History students. Sessions will run weekly on Wednesdays, 1-2pm in Bancroft 3.20 starting next Wednesday 2nd October.

PASS is a course-based mentoring scheme, run for students by students. It gives first-years the opportunity to discuss study-related problems and get general advice from higher-year undergraduates in their subject.

The Undergraduate History Journal is pleased to announce that we are now opening up submissions for our Spring edition on the theme of Democracies and Dictatorships. This includes essays on leaders, political processes, intellectual thought and events which lead to either system of governance. The Journal Team likes to make themes as broad as possible so it’s likely that even if you think your essay may not link to the theme directly it could still work really well in the Journal. So please do submit essays even if unsure.

Any queries on what may and may not qualify for this theme, please do email our editor in chief Jasmin - [email protected]

Essays must have been marked and graded previously to avoid self-plagiarism and can only be in essay style format (e.g. no book reviews or primary source analysis’).
