We have been busy behind the scenes for a while

📻 Keeping Local Radio Alive: Nevis Radio’s Ambitions to Serve Oban 🎙️

In July, Nevis Radio reached out to Oban FM when it became clear they were unable to continue broadcasting, offering a sustaining service to prevent a local radio blackout in the Oban area. Unfortunately, the offer came too late in the process to provide assistance at that time.

Since then, Nevis Radio has been working closely with external stakeholders, including Ofcom, to explore options for extending its reach into Oban. A request for a licence extension has been submitted to Ofcom, and the application is currently under consultation. Once the consultation period ends, Nevis Radio will be notified whether or not their request has been approved.

Sy, Nevis Radio’s Business Development and Sustainability Manager, shared: “If our application is successful, we hope to fill the gap left by a much-loved station, offering local programming across Lochaber and Oban. However, this expansion will raise our operating costs, and we’ll be seeking additional sponsors, advertisers, and opportunities for local events to help sustain the project. While we’re hopeful, nothing is guaranteed until we receive Ofcom’s decision. We’ll keep you updated as soon as we know more.”

Thanks to High Life Highland Libraries library staff and Alzheimer Scotland staff in Lochaber for sharing their playlist choices. Thanks too to the lovely folk who attended the Musical Memories evening in Kinlochleven Library one of our local Playlist for Life Help Points on Tuesday and chose their special playlist tracks for the show. Karin Tenant Participation Lochaber has also left her track in safe-keeping with Jo. Highland Senior Citizens Network is proud to be a Playlist for Life Help Point ❤

The council of Bens recently climbed Ben Nevis and raised a lot of money for charity... have you seen the rave at the top of the Ben, this was them. The Ledge expresses the sadness of the time he missed a foam party and then was inspired to write Foam Party FOMO... I'm sure we would all agree we would not like this.

The weather is giving us a bit of a battering this week, but it is looking brighter after today.
