Derry and Strabane Council to hold a special meeting on Ebrington, you would think this meeting would be in the guildhall but no in all their wisdom it's in strabane.
How in the hell do they expect people to attend this meeting especially those with children as the meeting is at 3:30PM.
The Derry people are the biggest stakeholders we Demand this meeting be moved to Derry.

Derry and Strabane £12m in the red !!!

Listening to the Derry and Strabane council meeting I am hearing that they are in 12 million in the red which would see a rates rise of about 16% in February.

Unless savings or cuts can be found how in the hell do they expect people to survive this?

I have not met a politician yet willing to step up and get this sorted. Conveniently there is an ongoing court case that stops public scrutiny on this issue, how many in government or Derry for that matter have toxic money in their accounts

In other news though whos ready to eat some bugs, seems the Netherlands and Australia are first in line for a bit of government overreach who would have thunk it, I've a wee prediction to make here, just saw on sky news that the whole of Great Britain, as they like to call it, is under a bird flu prevention zone. my prediction..... we see a massive outbreak reducing one of the biggest protein sources, so the government in all its wisdom will start pushing protein alternatives I wonder what that might be?

this will be a fun wee memory to look back on next year to see how close or far off I am 😀

Amazing work by MrChang you are a legend of the people and a credit to this city Rice Bowl Racecourse Road

6 days ago I set up a ‘ Pay it Forward ‘ option on Rice bowl App so that people more fortunate than others could ‘ Pay it Forward ‘ & provide a FREE meal to someone in need.
After initially setting it up I finished my shift went home & took my dog out for a walk.
When I came back from walking the dog, I sat down & noticed a face book message that I received from a gentleman in America.
He was inquiring as to how he could ‘ Pay it Forward ‘ to help the people in Derry due to the cost of living crisis .
So I Replied to him & said that he simply has to click the ‘ Pay it Forward ‘ option to do so & if he ever felt in need then he could do the opposite & claim FREE meals for himself.
However he had a problem doing this because the App closes at 11:00 & he was in America with a 5 hour time difference.
So it occurred to me that if I keep the ‘ Pay it Forward ‘ section on the Rice Bowl App open 24 hours , people could use the ‘ Pay it Forward ‘ section anytime in any Country in the World 🌎 to help one another & The Rice Bowl App would automatically print these FREE meals out for people even as I sleep. 🛏😴

Next morning I opened the shutters as usual walked into work & the ‘ Pay it Forward ‘ receipts were lying everywhere & Not just from people in N.Ireland or Southern Ireland but from all over the world.

The council hardship fund of £100 will help around 2500 households in the Derry/Strabane area, it will require some proof of income the council have given 5 days to produce this on request made to the fund.

We would advise if you believe you will need to apply to go now and request a benefit letter, a bank statement or any other proof you will need.

Do this today or as soon as possible it will make the application a lot easier and take away any stress of making the 5 day deadline

This fund will not last long at all so if you are struggling get on the ball now.

I am really concerned for the people of Derry and Strabane.
In the news we are being told Belfast could be due to raise their rates by 12.5% why is that concerning for us here?

When we look at past rates rises we see Belfast for the last 8 years have managed to keep theirs below 2% while Derry and Strabane for the last 3 years have been closer to 3.5%

If that trend continues will Derry and Strabane be looking at a 20% or more rise?

How can people survive?
On the other end of that how can council protect the services we need, will there be a reduction in services or a reduction on events?

Let us know what you think, where can we cut back if we even can?

Edwin Poots MLA this morning saying the Good Friday Agreement will be dead by the time Biden comes for the 25th anniversary.

This is a call out to the protestant community and the Unionist voters, does the pice a business pays and some checks at a port effect the way you live your life?
Is the protocol affecting the majority of protestant people, let me know as a protestant who is struggling to pay bills heat their home what about the protocol is it you disagree with.

In all reality the biggest problem is the DUP will not take their seat, this has been more damaging than any protocol. If the DUP really care about the people they are not really doing a good job, they are in essence protecting businesses because the protocol will not have any kind of massive impact on the 99% of people but the assembly not being able to sit is hitting the 99% where it hurts.

If the British government was willing to drop the DUP as soon as they got a majority what makes them think the EU will take any notice of their antics?

There is one thing I can't stand about politics and that's the vultures, swooping in to claim what is not theirs.
I sat last week knowing that I would be taking over this page listening to the news, I could not help but hear Sdlp Ballyarnett Cllr Rory Farrell - Derry/Ballyarnett on there bigging up the council hardship fund acting like he was the main man behind it.

That was the point I knew what my first post would be, don't get me wrong there was another in christopher Jackson but none had pimped themselves out to every media outlet who would listen quite like Rory did.

Let's have a look at Rory's contribution on the table was 3 million but Rory could not support this! he wanted a working group to talk the issue to death, his amendment called for discussion into the possibility of at some point, in the future, seeing what was left from the crumbs on the table.

Now as Rory himself said in a Facebook post (will post in the comments) these limited funds won't last long and will only reach 2500 homes imagine what that 3m would have done Rory.

Hello good people of Derry and beyond my name is Dee.
I will be taking over the page as Brian has decided to move on to pastures new, I want to thank him for all the work he has put in over the years and hopefully I will be able to fill his shoes.

I'm looking to bing some of the same types of issues, with things as they are at the minute I'm sure we will see a lot based on the cost of living emergency and much more. I can do some video editing so possibly a few videos in the works (don't be expecting UTV style edits lol)
