Boten Dan Ngam or Boten beautiful land previously known as Boten Golden City has.
It is located in the northern tip of Luang Namtha Province, border with Mohan, China.
This town has been an important trading hub between Laos and China since 1989 when the public relations between the two countries first began.

Boten Special Economic Zone is one of the largest infrastructure investments in Laos.
It was developed by Yunnan Haicheng Industrial Group Company Limited.
The area spans of 1,640 hectares.
with the signing contract of 10-billion-USD.

The story of this border-town is a case of boom to bust.
The Lao Government first designated this zone in 2003.
After a notorious period as a casino outpost from 2007–11, Boten was shutdown and much of the population vacated the zone.
