OCTOBER ROUND-UP - Spooky season, award nominations and an office bake off! 👻
October was a fun month in the office, with a competitive office bake-off decided by one vote, the tasty treats gave everyone an added sugar boost. We also received nominations for the 2024 Televisual Bulldog award and a Broadcast Tech award. The office had a spooky makeover and the spirits of the studio were in a good mood off the back of some positive news for the industry in the recent budget announcement.

Meet Jake Newton, one of our CG Generalist's, who turned his love for film and games into an exciting VFX career!

In a recent Q&A with Post magazine, Jake shared some insight into his journey and thoughts on the future of AI and was asked if he felt that AI could affect his job. Jake said:

"A year ago, I might’ve been worried, but not now. AI isn’t replacing what I do—it’s just a tool to speed up the process. While there’s been talk of AI taking jobs, it’s a great assistant. Having a human eye and creative vision is still key."

Overall, Jake’s got an optimistic take, his advice? “Learn to work with AI, not against it!”

Jake was also asked about how his exciting VFX journey began,

"I’ve always had a passion for the arts, but sixth form didn’t offer much beyond drama, and I’m no actor! That’s when I discovered Film & TV, Digital Design, and Web Design in college. I started experimenting with 3D and game engines and soon realised I could combine my two passions – film and games – and work in visual effects."

Tim, Ped & Leah had an opportunity to present and share our story - ‘Big VFX small company - how Vine FX create seamless, award-winning visuals with smaller teams’.

A huge thank you to Nigel Hunt for your warm welcome and for hosting the event. We also met other professionals such as Fiona Turnbull, the director of Meche and Felix Gorbatsevich, CEO and the leading technical expert at PaleBlue and other creatives. It was a successful evening, allowing us to share knowledge and enjoy a cheeky drink.

🎉 What a night! Our team had an incredible time at the Programme Awards on Friday at the beautiful Gonville & Caius College, Cambridge. It was fantastic to connect with so many talented Film and Television professionals from across the region.

🏆 We’re thrilled to announce that we won the Craft VFX award for our work on The Lazarus Project Series 2. A big thanks to our amazing team who made the magic happen.

The team merged CGI, VFX, and practical shooting for ITV's After The Flood. From combining plates shot at Tees Barrage with additional weather and location elements, to creating an entire village for an ambitious drone shot, the team at Vine FX pulled out all the stops to deliver a believable, immersive world for the post-disaster thriller. 🌊
