And now for something completely different......

A benefit of having your own business is that you can explore a new angle if it feels right - do you agree?

Following a significant event in my private life - I'm pausing LightSocial - my Social Media consultancy and training business - to pursue a passion I've always had: becoming an independent Thermomix advisor.

For those unfamiliar with Thermomix, it's an incredible kitchen appliance that makes cooking healthy, delicious meals a breeze.

I first heard of Thermomix from an Australian friend years ago but I didn't truly appreciate it until I bought one during our kitchen renovation - and I've been hooked ever since. Not only does it save me time and effort in the kitchen, but it also allows me to explore various cuisines and eliminate ultra-processed foods from my diet.

The business model revolves around 'cooking experiences', where I get to interact with people and share my passion for food. What's not to love?

I'm thrilled to embark on this new adventure and look forward to helping others discover the joys of cooking with Thermomix!

I am not a confident skier

Having come late to the sport in the first place, some might say that tearing my ACL during a lesson 7 years ago, was a huge sign of giving up

But on a recent trip to Austria, I had a 2hr lesson with the amazing Ricarda.

Do you know what she did?

She took me right back to basics with ‘no shame’ exercises that included me traversing the run with poles straight out and dipping side to side to exaggerate the turns- luckily it was a wide gentle slope! ⛷️

It was transformational - she corrected some of the bad habits I’d picked up and the result is that I get to enjoy views like this one without being terrified of how I’m going to get down!

Now here comes the cheek segue…🤷‍♀️

Hands up 🙋‍♀️ if you like playing with new tech?

If we were in a room together I'd have both hands up as I'm fascinated by how technology can help us in our daily lives - work and personally!

Right now however I'm more of a fingers-crossed 🤞 gal as I've just sent out my weekly newsletter from a new platform - Convertkit.

I've been considering switching from Mailerlite to Convertkit for a while. I am a huge fan of Mailerlite - particularly the free plan designed for businesses starting with email marketing - but Convertkit feels like the right next step in my business journey.

Of course, I underestimated the steep learning curve - and it didn't help that I decided it was a good idea to rewrite my welcome series too 🤦‍♀️ so it's been a bit hectic around here. But I'm taking the win of achieving one of my goals in the first month of the year!

One of the biggest challenges I hear from fellow small business owners is finding the time and inspiration to consistently create engaging content. Trust me, I get it! Running a business is a whirlwind of tasks, and content creation often ends up at the bottom of the to-do list.

If this is you - here's a simple strategy to help you overcome this hurdle.

Introducing the 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡 approach! It's a game-changer when it comes to planning and creating content that resonates with your audience. Here's how it works:

1. Choose a theme: Each month, pick a central theme that aligns with your business and the needs of your target audience. eg, if you're a fitness coach, your theme for January could be New Year, New You.

2. Brainstorm content ideas: Once you have your theme, brainstorm a variety of content ideas that revolve around it. Think blog posts, social media posts, videos, and even email newsletters. Get creative and jot down as many ideas as possible.

3. Break it down: Now, break down your ideas into bite-sized pieces. For instance, if your theme is New Year, New You, you could create content on setting realistic fitness goals, healthy meal prep tips, or even an inspiring success story from one of your clients.

⚡️ Don't forget to plan what you want to talk about in February⚡️

With February knocking on our doors you have hopefully settled into 2024 and have some clear business plans and goals to help drive what you post about.

- What product or services do you want to promote and when?
- Are there any awareness days that you should be talking about?

February obviously has Valentine's Day (14th) but would content around Chinese New Year (10th - 24th) or Real Bread week (16th - 25th) resonate better with your audience?

Don't forget you don't have to post about your business all the time. Let me know what your key content is going to be next month.

That's what's important when you're thinking about what to post on social media.

Instead of thinking about what to post and how to get engagement try shifting your thoughts to think about

✅ What posts will provide value for my followers?
✅ How can I get to know my followers better?
✅ What do my followers need that I can provide?

When you shift your focus from “How can I get” to “How can I help” you will connect with your audience on a much deeper level.

Providing value to your followers gives them a reason to follow you, engage and get to know you better.

Flashback to a lovely story and testimonial

Thank you Anne Thomas Photography - can’t believe it’s been well over 2years since we met - how’s your content planning going these days?

If you want to learn about consistency on your social media platforms, then speak to Alanah at Light Social.

We met her through networking, she booked me for a virtual shoot in those very early days of remote photography (before we had the luxury of today's technology) and we clicked straight away (no pun intended).

Being a social media consultant and trainer, I booked on one of her workshops, and Alanah consistently nudged me in the direction of planning my marketing rather than throwing it out there on the spur of the moment.

I resisted - and continued my sporadic posting.

But Alanah was there, in the background, giving me the occasional nudge when I wasn't looking.

And then one day, I woke up and it made total sense to be planning my content - why had it taken this long to see the light (again, no pun intended)?!

So on this Monday morning in December, I’d like to say thank you to Alanah for persistently nudging me in to planning my marketing - which has now become a habit that I don’t even think about - I just do it.
