Bristol’s hospitality heroes shine on biggest awards night yet

The latest Night Of The Stars event to honour Bristol’s hospitality heroes has been hailed the ‘biggest and best yet’ by organisers.

A record 400 guests descended on the city’s Ashton Gate sports stadium for the fifth glittering gala to be organised by the Bristol Hoteliers Association (BHA).

Together, they recognised and rewarded those who have gone the extra mile in support of the hospitality sector as it continues to recover from the impact of both Brexit and the pandemic despite the impact of soaring energy and fuel prices.

SS Great Britain Inspires Bristol Poet

Letters and diaries written by passengers on Brunel's SS Great Britain when it sailed the high seas have inspired a Bristol poet to produce a unique anthology.

Ship’s Log (Bristol Books, £8) has been researched and written by David Punter, Professor of Poetry at the University of Bristol, with every poem inspired by original writings of passengers and crew on Brunel’s great ship, now a permanent fixture in Bristol’s Harbourside.

David Punter searched through the archive attached to the ship and found passages written off the coast of Australia, America or on the high seas by passengers, the ship’s doctor, officers and crew members.
