As part of our design work, we use powerful 3D modelling software to help our clients visualise their space before construction begins.

We can try different configurations of equipment within the space, place acoustic treatment within it to assess the final design, and ultimately help you plan and implement a final result that meeds your needs and expectations.

Over the last few months, as our room design and installation projects have happened in various education spaces, music studios and beyond, we’ve become more and more aware of all the peripheral audio and visual pieces of kit that go into a space to make everyone’s life easier.

The shift from students staring a whiteboard to actively collaborating with their teacher using a smartboard and tablets, the customisable USB interfaces allowing engineers to personalise their workflow, and even the network switches that allow more people to connect and transfer information quicker, are huge examples of equipment that often go overlooked compared to the more mainstream tools.

We want to learn more and be able to provide a more rounded, full-scale service to customers and as a result we were recently over at Villa Park for a conference that centred around the assistive technologies that are out there to make people’s processes simpler, easier and accessible.

Here’s a throwback to when we were tasked to help control the sound in the studios for a big, multi-room, online video course provider down in London.

Without bass traps, panels and diffusers, the speech intelligibility, noise and echo in these rooms was an issue.

We were able to help control these issues at source, so that later down the line, the editors and producers of these videos had an easier and quicker job. That’s what our job is all about!

Work has also begun on our smaller, more intimate, demo room here at Giraffe Audio. It’s an interesting layout, with pretty square dimensions, so we’ve had to be particular in planning how we can make it the best sounding room we can.

Here some more progress shots of the acoustic partition wall we posted about last week, a bit further down the line.

This is the first time we'd really got creative with smart bulbs and smart rooms.

It can definitely go unnoticed and under appreciated but being able to change the lighting and the feel of our space with the push of a button or a voice command is so worth it.

Appropriate lighting gives another dimension and boost to the creativity, inspiration and focus that you get from a space like this and we're definitely noticing that.

Last year, we took the decision to build an acoustic partition wall in our space. Here are some photos of the start of that process.

Doing this meant that we were able to actually increase the storage available in our space and also improve the sound for our speaker demos.

But there is also a lot to be said about the motivation and new inspiration you get when you step into a redesigned, updated and improved space you've become too used to working in.

Very interesting to see the launch of the new System T S400 console from Solid State Logic (SSL)

We were down at their HQ in January checking out some of the other consoles in the System T range. Looks like they've taken onboard some good constructive feedback with the new S400 console and given people the tools to build a really powerful broadcast production unit.

Will be keeping an eye on this for sure...

Giraffe Audio is a Birmingham based music consultancy and retailer specialising in recording, music production. We're the go-to guys when you need to improve your sound.
