I’ve been observing. I’ve been hurting.
I’m sad and I’m angry.
The murder of George Floyd was absolutely heart breaking. I don’t have any other words for it.
I’m glad that people are talking about it and I pray for justice.
For those of us who experience racism, this is a conversation we frequently have.
Most of us united yesterday by participating in black out Tuesday to show solidarity with anti-racism.. but now what?
Yes by all means share posts, share educational resources, share your condemnation against racism. But are you learning yourself? Do you really mean it?
This isn’t a social media trend. This isn’t a season. This doesn’t go away for us until there is real change. This must translate into the actions in your own life.
Social media is powerful and I am grateful that it has raised so much awareness on this issue.
But you need to stand up against it in real life.
If you witness it, say something. Don’t stop having conversations because it’s uncomfortable for you. Don’t watch 1 documentary and no more after that. Keep learning. Don’t ignore it.
You really have to mean it, otherwise we will never truly combat racism.
This is definitely one of those cases where actions speak louder than words.
If you experience racism, please know that is is wrong even if people make you feel it’s ok.
P.s. if you haven’t signed the petition for George Floyd yet, the link is in my bio.
