🌱 farmers are leading the way on protection thanks to Ulster Wildlife - hundreds of hectares of Fermanagh’s once-lost, flower-rich grasslands have been meticulously mapped to ensure vital protection through the Environmental Farming Scheme. On this week Farming - Nicola Weir went to meet farmer and vet, Brian Keown, who is raising suckler on his species rich grassland.

🐷 This little piggy went to the market, this little piggy…

…made headlines after fathering around 70 piglets – and has now found a new home. Blanket's exploits made headlines a few years ago - when it was revealed he had jumped a farm fence and fathered dozens of piglets. Well now Blanket has a new home at Lucky Tails Alpaca Farm near Tamworth - where he's being used as a stud. Last week on Farming - Nicola Weir spoke to his new owner Sarah Booth who believes that Blanket has a long career ahead of him yet.

🏛️ City Walls Archaeological Dig 🏛️

Next week a major archaeological dig will take place on the grassy bank just below the famous and historical City Walls in Derry The Derry Walls A team from Queen's University Belfast is to lead the dig where they hope to find artefacts dating back to the 17th century when the structure was built.

This year marks 100 years of the BBC in Northern Ireland. Christine Lampard will return to our local airwaves to host a special BBC gala concert at the Waterfront Hall, with support from Belfast City Council as part of their Belfast 2024 year long celebration of creativity and culture.

A Century Of Stories, will be recorded for BBC television and radio in the Waterfront Hall on Tuesday 24th September. The concert will celebrate the range of the BBC’s work and its important role in local community life – bringing the best of everything to everyone.

The Ulster Orchestra will be centre stage and there’ll be performances also from a stellar cast of talent: Clannad, D:Ream, Tony Hadley and Katharine Timoney.

A Century of Stories will also include specially commissioned audio-visual works from Eoin O’Callaghan, Siobhan Brown, The Darkling Air and guitarist Rory Friers from And So I Watch You From Afar - all of which have been inspired by the BBC local programme archives.
