Gerry McNally is a well-known East Belfast based photographer, with a particular speciality in the coverage of live music events. He is often seen both in and out of the studio taking shots of local bands and artists. As an active and contributing member of Shorts Camera Club in East Belfast he organises regular shoots in the club's studio and in 2010 was responsible for the successful weekend tri

p to Rathlin Island. He is also very happy to have a landscape at the end of his lens and is available for wedding and portrait photography. A wide range of stock imagery is also available for sale. In October 2010 he began working with local promoter, Jim Heaney, and henceforth became Belfast's proud and official "Real Music Club" photographer. Regular work includes covering entertainment events for local media including radio station U105, UTV Entertainment and online review site Folk & Tumble. Gerry also works regularly covering events for QCAF, including the Out to Lunch Festival and the Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival. Other festival work includes Belsonic, Sunflowerfest, East Belfast Arts Festival and the Harvest Music Festival. In 2011 Gerry worked with local author Janice Donnelly and provided the cover photograph for her debut novel Buying Time. His experience is extensive and he has covered internationally established artists such as Beady Eye, Alabama 3, and The Who, to name just a few. To remain true to himself and his original roots he is regularly photographing bands and artists on the local music scene, including Anthony Toner, The Sabrejets and The Wonder Villains. The first solo exhibition of Gerry’s work was launched in Dawsons Music on Royal Avenue in Belfast in October 2012. The exhibition covered a range of concerts and festivals from 2010 until September 2012. Gerry is the Great Nephew of the renowned Irish landscape artist Sam McLarnon.

A 751 metre high mountain in County Donegal, Errigal is the tallest peak of the Derryveagh Mountains and the highest mountain in County Donegal. I took this picture at Easter a few years ago on a rare sunny day from the shore of the Clady River looking back towards Dunlewey. Days like this will come again.

With everyone doing their ten year challenge on social media I thought it would be a good chance to look back through ten years of music photography. Since starting in 2010 I've shot countless concerts and been lucky enough to photograph some of the biggest names in music. It's been a roller coaster ride to say the least.

In 1977 Eddie Gillespie's Cara Na Mara hit rocks and was taken to Magheraclogher beach for repair. Forty three years later her remains still lie and are as much a part of the Donegal landscape as Errigal Mountain. In 2019 the locals got together and decorated her for the festive season.

It’s sad to think that today could see the sun set on Harland and Wolfe for the last time.

Was looking through some old stock images of the shipyard cranes this morning for a friend and found this one from way back in 2009 that was taken from Victoria Park. Amazing how the how area has changed since then with the new Sam Thompson Bridge and the new buildings at Shorts.

I was lucky to encounter and photograph the late Sam McCready a few times over recent years. His charm, wit and good humour will never be forgotten. My favourite production was his "Dickens in Belfast" show which he performed to a full house in the Strand Arts Centre in 2014. Enjoy the great theatre in the sky.

The original bridge, which was narrow and required spiral ramps at either end, was demolished in 2014 and replaced in 2015 by a new structure.
