When you open your phone to post on your business social media channels do you have a goal for that post? Or are you just rushing to throw something out there because you know you should?

If it's the latter then please god just stop!

You're wasting your time throwing random s**t out there with no clear goal. You need to start and be intentional. Once you begin this your life will be much easier and you'll get better results.

So here is what you are going to do - start at the end...
What do you want your followers to do when they see/read your post?

What is your call to action? Is it to like the post, share it or comment on it.

Do you want people to message you or come to your shop or restaurant?

Once you know what you want from your followers work backwards - say you want someone the share your post? Think about what would make them do that... here are some examples:

🍰 If you have an amazing new dessert you might share a picture of it with a caption describing it and the CTA - share this with someone who could polish it off!

😎 If you have availability at your holiday accommodation, share a picture of the pool with the CTA - pass this post on to someone who needs to be beside this pool...

👗 If you have a new range of clothes in stock, share the photos with the CTA - share this with your bestie who'd look amazing in this!

📝 You have a top tip based on your business - share it in images and the post with a CTA - make sure you send this advice to that friend who needs to hear it.

Instagram seriously can't stop f**king about with the platform. And while some changes have been great I don't like this one.

From the 13th of December, you won't be able to follow hashtags and they also won't appear in your feed. This has been a really useful tool for location-based businesses, like the ones in Lanzarote to reach and engage with potential customers.

So what can you do instead?

It all comes down to making sure you prioritise SEO on your posts. If you're not sure how to do this book in with me for a power hour and let's get your writing for the algorithm

Here's the latest news from Instagram...
Unsurprisingly it's all about reels and carousels.
Both are outperforming other types of posts - reels on reach but for the first time carousels are outperforming reels on engagement. You need to be focusing your attention on these 2 formats.

Remember carousels are also super important as Instagram will show them twice to the same audience, once with the cover image and again with one of the other slides.

Oh, and as an added extra they're now letting you add music to your carousels which means they'll appear in the reels feed - another opportunity to get eyes on your stuff.

So get your arse in gear and get cracking with these two formats.

Keep repeating this every time you begin the muck about in Canva or procrastinate about posts on your social media.
It's time to just do it, just put the post out there - progress over perfection every time, that way you'll stop being disappointed!

You know how annoying it is when the kids won't stop doing something no matter how many times you tell them to stop?
Well, that's how I feel every time I see one of these shared to a story!

For the love of all that is holy please just STOP IT ALREADY! It makes absolutely no difference! I've told you how to turn off permission but if you're really that bothered you need to leave the platforms and make sure you scrape the internet to remove all your data.

And while we're on the subject can we all stop with the "Let's flood Facebook to (insert good cause or grievance here) that s**t doesn't work either! 🙄🙄🙄

My eye rolls are so big I nearly see anything except the inside of my eyelids these days 😆

Did you know Lanzarote has over 100 Facebook groups 😱 It blows my mind!
I've just counted and I'm in over 50 of them🥴🥴🥴 so how do I use them for the businesses I work with without losing my mind...

1. I spent time figuring out what groups work for what business - for posting, engagement and what time to do either. If you look at the group list you'll see how frequently people are posting to the group and how active they are.

2. I make sure when I post to a group I make the copy relevant to that group.

3. I set a timer for 30 minutes and I will work through the most important groups engaging as the business with any post I can be helpful with. This way the business name is seen regularly, seen as being helpful and not as a constant sales pitch.

So here's my tips... would you add anything else? Add 'em to the comments as they might help others.

Sometimes you just have to toot your own horn 🎺🎺

The world of social media is a crowded place these days but it is still possible to bring customers to your business via that route. You just need to know what to say, how to say it and how to get people to stop that scroll and read it. Simple isn't it?! 😆

Of course, we can't go 5 minutes without an update from Instagram!

However, you might just like this one... you can now add up to 20 photos or videos in your posts.

Why are they doing this? For the platform it means people will spend more time in the app, meaning they'll get more ad revenue.
For you - well, you can pack more information, product images etc into a single post. Just make sure the carousel is packed with value so your audience will read each slide.

Anything you put online and I mean anything, on social media, as Ads, on your website or on others sites as a guest blogger is now being downgraded in Google searches if it was A.I. generated.

Does this mean you can't use A.I. if you want to? No, is the simple answer but you will need to bear it in mind. The best plan of action would be to use the A.I. for your base info and then rewrite it to give the text your own touch.

Will you be changing your approach based on this info?

Instagram just launched a new feature for notes... You can add a small Note to any post in the feed, including Reels. 📝

Before you go dizzy from rolling your eyes so far into the back of your head, stop for a second and consider the benefits, you might find it useful.

You can leave a Note on any public post or Reel, whether you follow the account or not. Here's why you might want to use it:

✅ More visibility for your profile.
✅ Increased engagement in your DMs.

Notes last for just three days, so this might add a little excitement. 😆
The downside is they are only visible to mutual followers — aka people you follow & who follow you back.

Here's how if you want to give it a try:
🔹 Click on the aeroplane ✈ icon and tap the Note icon in the bottom left corner.
🔹 Choose “Close Friends” or “Followers you follow back.” 🫂
🔹 Post your note. ✏️

I was talking to someone this week and they told me they weren't going to do as much on their social media in July and August because most people were on holiday and I was like... WTF?!? And I'm sure I looked at them just like this.

Hotels, Beaches, Bars and Restaurants have WiFi these days so everyone can still get their fix of Facebook, their injection of Instagram or their dose of TikTok.

Did you know 55% of holidaymakers spend 30-120 minutes a day on social media? These two should tell you now is not the time to stop!
