Our Story

It all started in 2013, after struggling to find representation online for mainstream Cairo youth, our founder, Mariem ELTagoury, who was a pharmacy student at the time, decided to start a blog called CairoContra along with a bunch of friends.

In 2015, after attending the Creative Summit she noticed the lack of platforms and hubs which offer training grounds for content creators, particularly in the written content sector.

In 2016, she took a leap of faith & decided to turn CairContra into an online magazine where young talents - like herself - are given a platform to express themselves & develop their talent. CairoContra became a reflection of her story and her passion; it became a place that reassures young talents that it’s okay to dream of an unconventional creative career, all while filling a market gap.

Being a certified trainer, she found herself mentoring young talents into the world of content creation. Today, CairoContra, has branched out into creating workshops that cater to different aspects of content creation and is very proud to see it’s Contras and workshop attendees succeeding in the new world of content creation.

Today, the creative industry holds 29.5 million jobs, accordingly, most if not all other industries rely upon content creation in some form. With the creative industry's worth in the world's economy reaching 2.25 billion dollars there's an increase in job opportunities in the field.

Who is behind CairoContra?

CairoContra was created by Mariem ELTagoury during her college days in July 2013. Since then, CairoContra has grown from a blog into a hub for content creators to discover their skills and find their voices through the youth run magazine..

Behind the Name

Cairo is known to be a city where a concept and its contradiction co-exist peacefully and harmoniously; the city where contrasting cultures, lifestyles, arts, perceptions, traditions, beliefs, history, and almost everything co-exist. Hence, our name Cairo Contra. The city where contrast and opposites are all embraced, by the big city with all its bustle and hustle.
