Last chance: Breguet watch by Jérôme Bonaparte in
"Luxury & Lifestyle. Weimar und die weite Welt",
exhibition in Goethe-Museum, Düsseldorf
Only until 22. February 2022
The exhibition houses not only historical objects but also luxury items such as a selection of Breguet watches and, in particular, the pocket watch of Jérôme Bonaparte. Napoleon Bonaparte's youngest brother was appointed King of Westphalia by him and ruled between 1807 and 1813. He already owned several Breguet watches and on January 14, 1806, he bought the pocket watch, which is one of the highlights of the exhibition, for the then price of 2,200 francs.

The exhibition year 2022 at the
Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen in Düsseldorf

Impressive exhibitions await at the Kunstsammlung NRW in 2022!
It is an international selection of established masters and dynamic young artists. One highlight is certainly the exhibition of Gerhard Richter's „Birkenau“-Zyklus. The revered painter, who teaches at the Düsseldorf Art Academy, turns 90 on February 9 2022. His „Birkenau“-Zyklus will be shown once again in Düsseldorf before traveling to Japan and later coming to Berlin's National Gallery.

The Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen is the art collection of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia in the state capital Düsseldorf. It spreads its treasure trove of artworks over 3 buildings in the city, the K20 at Grabbeplatz 5, the K21 in the Ständehaus at Ständehausstrasse 1, and the Schmela-Haus at Mutter-Ey-Strasse 3.

Franziska Stünkel Exhibition "Coexist" at Leica Galerie Düsseldorf
February 19 - April 30, 2022
Leica Galerie Düsseldorf is showing works by German photographer and film director Franziska Stünkel in the exhibition "Coexist." For more than twelve years, the internationally awarded film director and photographic artist has traveled with her Leica camera through Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Americas in search of natural reflections on window glass that, in their condensation, tell of the coexistence of human life.

Charged to the highest complexity, her photographs are the visualization of the commonalities and contrasts that exist in our interconnected world. The artist completely dispenses with digital post-processing of her photographs. The result is a multi-layered view of the highly topical question of coexistence in our present. The exhibition at Leica Galerie Düsseldorf presents photographs from the entire twelve-year work cycle "Coexist".

Ash Barty and Ashvin Harrison - Tennis Meets Art - Rado Art Auction
from 10 - 22 January 2022
This auction at Singularart will open on 10.01.2022, 00:00 Eastern Australian Time.

Australian tennis player Ash Barty, WTA world number one and Rado brand ambassador, created a piece of art with renowned artist Ashvin Harrison, which is now being auctioned for charity. The artwork resulting from the encounter was arranged by the watch brand Rado.

Ashvin Harrison works as a painter and draughtsman in Australia. In his compositions, he strikes a balance between monochrome textures and colourful details meant to represent the complexity of human emotion and connection. He composes figurative works with charcoal and acrylic. With charcoal he captures the representational images; then he draws inspiration from music or nature and combines with abstract, expressionistic colours.

For the joint work with Ashvin, Ash completed one of his artworks - under the artist's guidance, but in her personal way: With tennis balls dipped in paint, which she hit on the canvas, the tennis player added colour and energy to Ashvin's monochrome structure.

The Art for Charity project was initiated by the Swiss watch manufacturer Rado. In partnership with the international online art gallery Singulart, Rado will now auction the artwork.

About the auction
The auction of the artwork for Make-A-Wish will take place from 10 to 31 January 2022 via the renowned online art gallery Singulart. The artwork can be viewed at www.singulart.com/en/events/makeawish from 10 January.

The background
Documenta 15 is led by the artist collective ruangrupa. The ruangrupa collective was founded in Jakarta in 2000 and is a renowned name in the Indonesian art and culture scene. ruangrupa is internationally experienced and networked and, for example, organised the art project "Market Share" together with the German artist Tobias Rehberger as a partner of the Goethe-Institut in 2015.

The documenta was founded by Kassel art professor and designer Arnold Bode in 1955 and is considered the most important exhibition for contemporary art. In 2017, it was directed by Polish curator Adam Szymczyk and took place in two cities, Kassel and Athens. It reached more people than ever before in its history; it denounced suffering, colonialism, capitalism, climate catastrophe, but unfortunately recorded a financial deficit.

The directors of documenta 15 ruangrupa, on the other hand, have a participatory approach and an excellent network. Taking their own principle further, they identified other artist collectives from around the world as participants for 2022. The way the participants were announced was also something quite new - they were announced in the German homeless magazine "Asphalt". The list of artists' collectives was also arranged by time zone, not alphabetically.

The Climate Museum in New York
Interview with Saskia Randle and Anais Reyes

Museums are the vehicle for social and political engagement, and can create significant change. That's what Miranda Massie had in mind when she founded the Climate Museum in New York. Art is central to the Climate Museum's mission. Miranda Massie believes that people's climate engagement is facilitated by arts and cultural programmes. She had realised that most Americans are concerned about the climate crisis but do not know how to act. She sees her most important target group in this regard as young people, and her staff also consists mainly of students and high school pupils.

Each year, at 11am on 11 November the world falls silent to remember those who lost their lives in the battlefields of World War I. The so-called Great War was meant to be the war to end all wars, but since then, countless other conflicts have unleashed their horror and despair across the globe. Again and again, governments insist that the best way to resolve an argument is to kill. How to disrupt this terrible cycle of violence? Art is one way.

Displayed in front of the Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest building, at the famous Burj Plaza, alongside Expo 2020 Dubai, the Global Gate will make an important contribution to communicating the Sustainable Development Goals up to and including March 2022. The artwork also borrows from the thematic focus of EXPO 2020, which is "Connecting minds, shaping the future." The world exhibition is expected to attract 25 million visitors from all over the world.

The opening ceremony was attended by Khalil Abdul Wahid, Visual Arts Manager at Dubai Culture, Holger Mahnicke, German Consul General in Dubai, Leon Löwentraut and numerous other personalities from politics, art and society.

The Global Gate is the largest mobile work of art in the world and was designed with the 17 motifs of the campaign by the young German artist Leon Löwentraut, who is only 23 years old. Unmistakably based on the Brandenburg Gate in its construction, the artwork is 24 meters wide, 21 meters high and has a depth of six meters.

ANNA MARIA LUISA DE'MEDICI
Art, culture and beauty for Düsseldorf

Anna Maria de Medici is one of the outstanding Rhenish personalities of the late 17th and early 18th centuries. She came from the old Italian ruling dynasty De Medici from Florence. As the wife of the Palatine Elector Johann Wilhelm, she contributed significantly to the rise of Düsseldorf to a European cultural metropolis.

The Medici family had ruled over Florence and the surrounding area for more than 300 years. The Medici name is associated with art and culture. In fact, the family promoted, painters, sculptors and composers. The Medici family conducted trade and banking business throughout Europe and provided three popes. The family was so influential that it was hard to imagine an end to its rule.

You can't see it right away, but the watches are a motorway triangle: the German motorways A9, A3 and A7 (from left) meet here. Because: This is the "Director's Cut" of the NOMOS Autobahn watch. In favourite colours of its designer Werner Aisslinger, each is limited to 175 pieces.

The Nomos Autobahn watch came onto the market in 2018 designed by the German industrial designer Werner Aisslinger. The designer worked with the manufacture for over 4 years to develop the watch, as technical innovations kept coming. When the Autobahn watch was finally completed, it was a sporty watch at the request of the designer. Werner Aisslinger wanted to design a fast watch because speed fascinates him. Thus, the Autobahn watch has a partial luminous ring. The illuminated ring is reminiscent of the illuminated dashboard of a car speeding along a German motorway in the dark.

The Manufacture's new "Director's Cut" watch comes in the colours A3 (white-orange-red), A7 (blue-yellow) and A9 (black-grey). The watches are reminiscent of the cars sleds that enriched the street scene in the 60s and 70s.

The watch seems masculine because of the size, but is also popular with women.

FLORASIS
Artistic cosmetics from China
22 November 2021
From my daily flood of pictures on Instagram, I discovered a treasure. Beautiful Chinese scenes and true works of art on packaging. Turns out it's the well-established cosmetics brand Florasis in China.

There is probably no packaging design like Florasis anywhere in the world. The jade-coloured powder compacts are decorated with gold patterns and stones. The texture of the powder, eye shadow and lipstick is engraved with traditional Chinese scenes.

Florasis was founded in Hangzhou in 2017. The brand name is a combination of Flora + Sister and means "Goddess of Flowers". The Florasis logo stands for "classicism, elegance and balance". The packaging is mostly dark cyan and rose, a colour combination that stands for elegance in traditional Chinese aesthetics.
Florasis works with Chinese master craftsman Yuan Changjun to create the packaging - bejewelled jars, engraved gold caskets and intricately carved totem poles. The Yuan-designed packaging includes eyeshadows and eyebrow pencils, full-face glam kits, lip colours and skincare products.

https://www.amourfou-art.com/ha-schult-presents-wertgigant-on-schinkelplatz-in-berlin---ha-schult-and-his-berlin

On Wednesday, 17 November 2021, the artist HA Schult presented his artwork "Der Wertgigant" on Schinkelplatz in Berlin. The sculpture is six metres high, weighs three tonnes and consists entirely of discarded electronic waste - old laptops, refrigerators, mobile phones, washing machines and much more. The statue is an expression of the enormous environmental problem: the gigantic sculpture represents the electronic waste that German households produce in 72 seconds. Within only 20 hours, an army of 1,000 valuable giants is thus created.

HA Schult, a lifelong activist and campaigner against environmental destruction and overconsumption, grew up in Berlin and feels a strong connection to the city.

The art project is made possible by the company Wertgarantie SE. Together with artist HA Schult, Wertgarantie wants to get involved in the fight against electronic waste. The motto is: repair instead of throwing away.

WHITE 2.0 BY STUART SEMPLE
After three years of research and development involving 2000 beta testers, British artist Stuart Semple announced that he has developed White 2.0. According to the artist, it is the brightest and whitest paint in the world for artists.

Semple says White 2.0 reflects 99.98% of light and is 50% brighter than the best-selling white paint for artists on the market, according to tests.

For decades, laboratories have been researching the structure of the wings of the Cyphochilus beetle ("ghost beetle") - an unusually white natural material as well as polar bear fur.

Cult artist Stuart Semple, who first developed Pinkest Pink and then Black 3.0, has developed White 2.0 with 2,000 isolated artists who have turned their homes into test facilities. Through this community-driven process, Stuart was able to find out what the artists actually needed and wanted from the colour. According to the artist, one of the qualities of White 2.0 is its incredible opacity, which eliminates the need to apply layers and layers of paint to dark surfaces.

Once reserved for royalty, red carpets and life's most celebratory moments, diamonds were seen as symbols of wealth and prosperity accessible only to the few. But with the new century comes a new expression of luxury, as a new generation of young designers, as well as established jewellers such as Sabyasachi, Messika, Anita Ko, Boucheron and Fernando Jorge, stage diamonds as an everyday pleasure. Today's leading designers are incorporating diamonds into their designs in unexpected ways. Diamonds today shine with new interesting cuts and colourful hues.

SUZANNE BELPERRON
A REVOLUTIONARY IN THE WORLD OF JEWELLERY.

The only woman in the pantheon of early twentieth century master jewellers, Suzanne Belperron's works continue to influence modern jewellery design today. Her jewellery was so bold and elegant that she pioneered a whole new aesthetic in jewellery.

Belperrron's inspiration was nature - starfish, shells, butterflies, leaves, flowers and fruits - but always in an intellectualised and abstracted form. Other inspirations were foreign cultures, paisleys from the Orient, Mayan ornaments and tribal patterns from Africa. With these inspirations in mind, Belperron forged a new look that was hailed by the fashion press as "brilliant" and "barbaric".
