ACTOR is a group of five students from the Rheinisch Westfälische Technische Hochschule in Aachen (RWTH Aachen). The REXUS program allows students of universities and other higher educational establishments in Europe to carry o

ut scientific and technological experiments on rockets for high altitude research. Every year two rockets take off with each up to five experiments on board. These experiments have been designed and built by the student teams. With our experiment we want to study cellulose aerogels. This is a new material that can be used for isolation purposes on space flights in the future. Because it is not possible to reproduce the conditions of space in a laboratory the testing of these cellulose aerogels has to take place in space in order to reach realistic results for the use of cellulose aerogels under application oriented conditions.
