pre-order now (Alone-009)

Sun Yizhou 孙一舟 born in 2000, lives in Beijing. He plays one or more mis-operated appliances in real-time out of contradiction and uncertainty, in a state of irregularity or homogeneneity. Has been performing and recording with different musicians in different places from 2019 to the present.

"I plugged the mixing board’s own noise floor into the feedback containing an effector, no other sources. After pressing start, i didn't touch the equipment again, all the sounds were played on their own. At the end of the recording, it was raining outside the window."

pre-order now (Alone-008)

Evan Lindorff-Ellery is a visual/sound artist based in upstate New York and co-founder of the tape label Notice Recordings. Much of his work relates to field recordings and free improvisation of objects in an outsider, lo-fi aesthetic. He is interested in the nuances of otherwise unharnessed sounds.

The album 'Cymbals and Night' is a combination of field recordings and free improvisation. It's all recorded on a low fidelity iPhone, which doesn't have the "purity" of live listening. Many different noises interact with each other in the phone's own compression and signal-to-noise ratio algorithms. There is no such thing as perfection on this album. The unintentional humming of the baritone, the friction between the stone and the concrete, you can hear him playing, walking, and so on. When he stops playing, the sound of the wind accompanied by the chirping of insects brings you imagination.

pre-order now (Alone-007)

Wang Changcun (ayrtbh) is an experimental musician, artist, and software writer living in Shanghai. He is one of the earliest explorers of experimental electronic music and computer programmed composition in China. In recent years, he has focused on web art and computer music, creating computer software installations.

'Synthetic Weather Reporter' consists of two tracks with different textures. Track 1 unfolds slowly like a rain shower, from soft and delicate sweet bubbles to overloaded dark and dangerous clouds, from far away to in front of you, where the raindrops will hit you. Track 2 has a musique concrète tradition, consisting entirely of vocal samples, as if amplifying Alvin Lucier's stuttering moments over and over again, many of the sounds are mistakes that one would hope to avoid in voice recording technology, but ayrtbh organizes them in a frenzied fashion. It's full of richly textured sound synthesis and momentum, with a touch of programmer's black comedy.

release pre-order (Aloe-004)

Tokyo sound artist Seiji Morimoto is interested in the uncertain acoustic appearances between usual objects, for example water and stones, and the technical medium. Eric Wong is both a guitarist and electronic musician. As an electronic musician, he focuses on utilizing smartphones and Bluetooth speakers for his compositions and performances.

They are both currently living in Berlin for many years. They share a common interest and research direction - exploring vibration. This album is the result of a period of time. A long, meditative experience. The amplitudes from the analog and digital sound at times clash together and you won’t know where you‘re going to go.

release pre-order (Aloe-003)

Hiroyuki Ura and 朱文博 collaborate across Tokyo and Beijing. This is a new album by the two musicians, who have been exchanging recordings and re-creating them using the “tape loop” method of composition. The two have been creating music using this “tape loop” method for several years now, but in a slightly different way. Side A of the cassette features Hiroyuki Ura processing Zhu’s sound material, and side B vice versa. They have known each other for many years and this is their first album together.

After a year, the Aloe series is back with two new albums soon. One of them comes from Tokyo musician Hiroyuki Ura and Beijing musician Zhu Wenbo, a new album created by the two musicians who exchange material in a loop-tape creative method. The two have used the method for years (but differently) and have known each other for years, with their first collaborative album.

release pre-order (Alone-006)

“Near my house there is a natural pond and in springtime and summer it’s full of frogs talking to each other. I love the sounds they make, so I decided to make a recording of this. Afterwards, when I listened to it, I noticed how many other sounds were present as well, which meant I had no clean recording of the frogs. At first I was pretty frustrated with it. But after listening repeatedly, I started to hear it in a different perspective. The unclean recording was basically full of life, even if that was not what I had originally hoped for. This prompted me to start working on it in a way that is quite unlike my other work. Instead of making the work sparse and open, it‘s fuller and muddier than usual, a bit like the pond. Sounds are quite similar to each other and often blur together. On top of that there is a constant friction, as if my frustration about the muddiness has found a way in here, or out. Then again, life as we know it started in muddy ponds, I believe. The other two tracks are based on the same concept, but have different sound origins.” - Roel Meelkop

Another one is also coming soon.. I'm happy to present a new release by Roel Meelkop. He is a sound artist from Rotterdam, whose musical activities go back to the early eighties. And he is mainly interested in structure, dynamics and timbre, more than tonality and rhythm. His work is often described as nuanced, dynamic and sculptural.
Muddy Ponds is an unusual work, unlike anything else he's done. It's fuller and muddier than usual, hence the title. lt all comes from the ponds near his home. He also believed that life as we know it originated in muddy pools.

New release coming soon.. from Leo Okagawa‘s solo electronic live album. Leo Okagawa is a sound artist based in Tokyo, Japan. He started recording environmental sounds in 2014, and around that time he started making multilayered collage works from elements of recorded sounds, analog machine’s noise, and simple electric tones. He has also been working on an improvised performance since 2017. Using some electronic devices, he explores the structural possibilities of sound through the combination of simple tones.

55355 - Zhao Cong (Alone-005)

55355 is a recording that is both outdoors and in-outdoors at the same time. It is “electric” music, but not electronic music at the same time. Recorded on 9th April 2023, it consists of four sessions, which were excerpted after without overdubbing. This may sound cryptic, but would make clear once you hear it.

Zhao Cong (赵丛) is an experimental musician living in Beijing. She has been playing improvised music through her own approach since 2016, before and after she plays bass in rock band. When making music, Zhao Cong uses a variety of everyday objects, amplified by pickups from a variety of microphones, to bring out unfamiliar and heterogeneous sounds.

All sounds by Zhao Cong
Recorded in Beijing, April 9, 2023
Recorded/Mixed/Mastered by Zhu Wenbo
Design by Sun Yizhou
