Floating Notes presents Afra Kane 🩵

Winner of the Montreux Jazz Talent Awards 2019, and Swiss Live Talents Award 2022 nominee, Afra Kane, is a classical pianist gone singer-songwriter, composer, and producer, boasting a variety of musical and cultural backgrounds. Composition has always been the artist’s outlet to dissecting emotions & reflections converting them into art.Her sensitivity is enormously reflected in her music, which unearths taboos and topics not often talked about: depression, hypersensitivity, impostor syndrome and self-forgiveness. Her album ‘Hypersensitive’, rated four stars by “Kulturtipp”, released in March 2022, translated into a tour in several countries around the world, such as China, Bolivia, Peru, Spain, the UK, Germany, and the United States.
Her singles “Building” and “Start Again”(2021) were very well received by radios in Switzerland and across Europe on BBC Introducing and Jazz Fm. Moreover her single “Mouth Shut”, was selected as BBC introducing record of the week. Afra Kane was invited to play as a guest artist at Jack Savoretti’s Italian tour, contacted by the singer himself on Instagram. She also shared the stage with John McLaughin, Anne Pacéo and Snarky Puppy, having taken part in the Montreux Jazz Academy. In 2021, she was an “Artist in residence” for two months, at the prestigious Carlyle Café in Hong Kong, whose legacy has seen Eartha Kitt, Woody Allen and Bobby Short among some of the artists invited to the Café hailing from New York.

Floating Notes presents Francesco Giudici🌷

Guitar player, co-founder and music curator for the cultural association Grande Velocità based at the Spazio Lampo in Chiasso, and sociologist working for the statistical office of Canton Ticino. He played guitar in several projects and collaborated with fiction and documentary directors, realized music for advertising, video installation and theatre pièces.

Floating Notes Festival presents Yumi Ito 🥰

With her voice, Yumi Ito creates worlds far beyond all borders. A laureate of the Montreux Jazz Competition, she is considered one of the most outstanding representatives of vocal improvisation, and effortlessly operates between genres as well as her roles as a singer, pianist, composer, and improviser.
SWR Jazz subsequently named her one of the vocal discoveries of 2020, while Jazz thing and Bandcamp selected her album “Stardust Crystals” as one of the best releases of 2020. Yumi Ito performs solo or in a trio, which includes the “drum poet” Iago Fernández and the double bassist virtuoso Nadav Erlich.
“Ysla” (14.04.2023 via enja records), the new album by Yumi Ito, marks a new peak in her opus: personal stories, impressive improvisations, and a unique voice – like an island, proud, stoic, and strong in the middle of the ocean between Art-Pop, Jazz, and Neoclassicism.

Floating Notes Festival presents Laura Masotto 🔥

Laura Masotto is a classically-trained Italian violinist in a state of constant exploration. In 2021 she signed with Berlin-based label 7K! and released her album WE, including collaborations with Roger Goula and Hior Chronik. In 2022 started her collaboration with Deutsche Grammophon: she composed a piece called “Sol Levante” for Mari Samuelsen’s album “Lys” and contributed with a rework of the classical composition “Shéhérazede” to the Collection “Summer Tales”. She collaborated with her music to the dance show “Miss LaLa” with Pina Bausch Tanztheater dancer Marigia Maggipinto. Laura has contributed pieces to several label compilations, including “Duet Layers” (featuring artists such as Hania Rani, Colin Stetson, Niklas Paschburg and more) curated by 7K!. She played as opening act for artists such Hania Rani, Joep Beving and Federico Albanese. Her new album “The Spirit of Things” was released in March 2024 by 7K!.
Her track “Sol Levante” is part of the soundtrack of Netflix show “Baby Reindeer”.

What can I say? It’s been a crazy year. I’m grateful for all the things that have happened, from my show at the , to picking my album at the , my collaboration at , to the concerts, to the collaborations, but most of all to the faith you had in me, in creating something different with my harp in this difficult world. I thank you with all my heart for being there, supporting me, loving me and hating me.

Siamo convinti che la cultura renda liberi perché rende critici, e l'idea di proporre musica che non ha velleità commerciali e, al contrario, scava nelle zone più inesplorate dei nostri pensieri e sentimenti sia la strada giusta per sviluppare una certa attitudine e allo stesso tempo una grande apertura mentale.
