Old school vs. New school
The last few days, I have gotten tons of questions and feedback from a couple of short form videos on our wedding last weekend.
Want to know something funny?
We had a short form video team and a long form video team on siteā¦
And they HATED š¤¬ each other!
It was pretty much an all out war to capture the right / best footage of the weekend.
Whoās winning so far?
The short form video team gave us 10+ videos from our first night. And then proceeded to give us another 30+ videos from the night of the wedding.
This was done in less 24-48 hours after the event.
They practically stayed up all night to edit them!
We had worked out a āset listā of sorts so they shot with precision and was relatively quick.
And they were fun to work with!
Compare that to the long form video team - they are going to get us a couple of reels from the āwedding videoā in (insert š„ roll please)
In 2 monthsā¦
When they finish the movie šš
Now, I have no doubt that the cinematic version of that video will be top notch. I canāt wait to see it!
But the difference so far is remarkable that I found it hard not to comment.
I get it. They both have their merits and technically they are different products, but at the end of the day, I am massively excited about the wedding right now because itās fresh in my mind.
So it makes more sense for me to have something to share now.
And on top of that, does it make sense to share a 15+ min video of our special weekend, or under 1 min is awesome enough?
I even put all the videos in a folder for our guests and some of them have shared about the epic weekend on their own socials and feeds.
Will our friends wait 2 months from now to share anything re: our wedding? (Even if it has an entire story arc and is cinematic etcā¦)
Look, itās not lost on me that this definitely a first world problemā¦
And Iām am intensely grateful for anyone on our wedding team
However, it begs the questionā¦
When will this idea of getting a long form wedding video be simply be seen as old school?
If you are unwilling to adapt to the ever changing landscape of the market and your consumers, you will be replaced with (likely) a younger, quicker, more capable team that does listen and understand.
And will prob even start overdelivering too on what they promised.
Business and life can be simpleā¦.
Adapt or dieš¤
Your life, your choice!
