WHAT IS “ERGONOMICS”??? 💬

I talk a lot on my stories about doing ergonomics assessments for work and you guys voted that you would like a post explaining what it is. So here we go…

Ergonomics is defined as “the science of designing and fitting a workstation to a worker” to make it safer and more efficient. The goal is to fit the workstation to the worker and not the other way around — workers should NOT be placing themselves in awkward or constraining postures when working ⚠️

By adjusting and setting workstations up properly for each individual worker, companies can actually save money on workplace injury claims, time away from work, short term and long term disability claims, etc! The more injuries a company has, the higher fees they have to pay 🤯

My company has a well-being team that supports all employees across Canada, which is the team I am a part of!! Part of that involves free ergonomics assessments for the employees in pain, lacking equipment or who just want general education to make sure they’re set up optimally! Companies who don’t offer ergonomics support CAN source external professionals to conduct assessments for their employees, but it’s costly and they don’t always want to pay to do so. Just think how much money they could potentially save if they did pay for assessments and to implement the appropriate changes VS all of the workplace injury and disability claims🤷🏻‍♀️

I can’t believe today is the last day of January already! How have we had one month of 2022 pass us by so quickly!?

While the gyms were closed all month and I slacked on doing home workouts, there was still some other movement and photo dump worthy moments ✨

Time for a little change… say hello to 🖤✨

For a while now I’ve been sneaking in some lifestyle posts during the holidays or when exciting things happen (like getting engaged😍), but my page has always been fitness oriented as it’s a huge part of my life and always has been.

After going through (and still going through) a pandemic, a complete shift from working in an office setting to working from home full-time for 2 years, to experiencing gym closures and trying to manage the motivation to do home workouts at different times of the year… I’ve really come to realize how truly important it is to take care of your mental, emotional and social health too.

I never really struggled with my mental health until the pandemic hit. I always felt like I had a good hold on my life and what was happening in it. With such a change in lifestyle which was out of my control, came a change in perspective for me.

And so, I decided to adjust my Instagram handle to 💭. There will continue to be a heavy presence of fitness content and tips of course, but you will start to see more and more lifestyle content integrates in my page as well. Of course we all want to grow our following, but with this change I hope to be able to inspire and guide more people who may not always be looking for fitness content.

Just because I haven’t actually worked out all week, does not mean I’ve been lazy or inactive!! I’ve actually hit my steps MORE this week than I normally do when I’m working out regularly as well 👏🏼

THE IMPORTANCE OF REST DAYS💤

We all know rest days are essential for our physical health and progress, but did you know it’s essential for our mental health and emotional well-being as well?

Normally weekends are my rest days and I took two days off this weekend, but sometimes I need one mid-week too. Everyone functions different with or without rest days but here’s why I recommend them 👇🏼

☝🏼 they give your body time to physically regenerate and recover from your previous workouts, and ultimately help prevent injury.

✌🏼 they provide time for you to mentally reprioritize your fitness plan and goals, and help you keep your mind clear and calm for your next workout.

🤟🏼 they help keep us emotionally fit, especially if we feel like we’re struggling in our workouts, our progress, or motivation to keep pushing forward.

Rest days AREN’T just for your physical well-being, so take them when you need them!! ✨ @ Canada

*internally crying and screaming bcuz I’m losing all of my gains from before lockdown 2.0*

GUYS — it has been rough. Home workouts are not my jam to say the least but they did the job for the time being. Gyms are finally open in my region but I can’t book any appointments, they’re always immediately full 🥲. I’m debating starting up at a smaller gym, closer to my house to see what my chances of getting a gym workout in would look like, but I’ll keep you posted.

I’m VERY hopeful that I’ll be able to start posting gym workouts again for you all soon 🤞🏼. In the meantime, I’ve categorized a lot of my home workouts into my GUIDES section on my profile — check them out for a variety of workouts that require minimal to no equipment ✨

🖤 BE YOUR AUTHENTIC SELF 🖤

Social media is a MASSIVE platform of people who may portray non-realistic expectations or “goals” for society. I used to fall into that black hole of social media, always comparing myself to other people I didn’t know because I never looked “like them”. I quickly came to realize as I grew more and more comfortable in my own skin that I am HAPPY with my body and it’s the only one I get, so why not be more positive about it✨

My daily reminder for you today is to be your own authentic self. Sure you can set goals to train like other people and look a certain way, but you are not these other people — they’re their own authentic self, so you need to be YOURS!! 💫

It can take time to love your body and yourself as a whole, but trust me it’s so worth it to learn how to do just that. Just like your fitness journey is exactly that, a journey, so is your self-love 🖤

Don’t take life too seriously. If you can laugh at yourself , then you’re gonna make it 🤍

Whether it’s because I just walked into a wall or piece of furniture that hasn’t moved an inch, tripped over the crack in the sidewalk, missed a step on the stairs, tried to be funny but my boyfriend just doesn’t “get it” (cuz it’s rlly not that funny), or literally anything else... I’m always laughing at myself. Apparently I think I’m good entertainment🤪

But laughter is honestly one of the best “medicines” out there. Laughing helps release endorphins and reduce stress hormones which all helps with mental health! And some people may say it can even give you abs — this is false but we won’t bash that myth into pieces for the believers out there 🥸

🌸 MAKE TODAY YOUR BRIGHTEST DAY 🌸

Today is “Blue Monday” which is known as the most depressing day of the year. I’ve posted about Blue Monday every year, but I really want to emphasize it today ☁️.

This year more than ever, you may be feeling “blue” or down. And THAT’S OKAY. This pandemic has stressed us both physically and mentally to our max & I’m right there with you.

But today, let’s make it BRIGHTER⭐️. Let’s challenge ourselves to do at least 3 positive things to practice self care and mindfulness. These don’t have to be tedious actions or require indulgence — just think of simple things you can do to focus on your own health and well-being without distraction.

Here’s some examples: go for a walk alone and listen to your favourite podcast, journal 3-5 things you’re grateful for today, take 15 minutes to sit quietly without your phone and clear your mind, do a stretching break during your workday, or even just telling yourself 3 things you love about your body and mind!!

IT’S THAT SIMPLE. Small but meaningful actions can truly help boost your mood and support your mental and physical health, especially through such exhausting times we’ve all been experiencing.

But most of all — don’t be afraid to reach out if you need to. You DO have support. And I’m here for you when you need it! Feel free to shoot me a message if you need to talk today — I hope you have a bright day✨

HOW TO STAY ACTIVE DURING THE WINTER 🌨

We all know it here in Canada.. winter gets cold af and it can significantly hinder motivation to stay active and keep your mood up! Seasonal blues can hit hard this time of the year, but maintaining your physical activity levels can help to promote your mental health 🧠.

✨HERE’S MY TIPS:
❄️ Keep a routine — having a routine helps your body stay on track on a regular basis, so there’s less of a chance of you completely falling out of your daily norm.

❄️ Go for short walks — even though it may be super cold, get your body outside in the fresh air and moving throughout the day!!

❄️ Plan your workouts — get a planner or a cute little notebook and plan your workouts! Writing down your workouts in advance can help you stay motivated and avoid wasting time when you’re ready to workout!

❄️ Be creative!! — home workouts especially can sometimes feel less productive or exciting compared to working out in the gym. Try to be creative with the equipment you have at home and use other people’s workouts for inspiration when you need.

Happy Sunday - what do you all have planned for today??

Sunday’s are generally rest days for me! It’s the perfect day to run any errands, clean the house, prep some food for the week, and regenerate for another new week 👏🏼. Although not every single Sunday follows the exact same pattern, it’s a day I take on with an open mind.

How WEIRD is it that now, because of the pandemic, even just going out to the grocery store or something that used to seem so small and unexciting has become an “outing”🥲. Leaving the house to go get groceries or even just go for a walk is now our new reality of excitement! I work from home, relax and live at home, workout at home... literally everything happens at home, so any little outing for me is what keeps me going during these weird days.

How many of you use Sunday to take time to reflect? Maybe on the last week, your mental health, how you’ve been feeling physically lately. It’s all super important — so don’t ignore it✨

I hope you all have a lovely Sunday, wherever you are in the world 🤍
