Bill King’s recorded career goes back to 1965 and a cover of jazz great Bobby Timmon’s “Moan’in” by southern band, The Chateaus. King arranged and played piano on the top 50 Billboard hit. King arrived in Canada in 1969 and scored a recording deal with legendary producers Jack Richardson and Bob Ezrin and released Every Living Thing by Homestead. Then came two solo projects for Capitol Records – Goodbye Superdad and Dixie Peach. Through the years King has been nominated three times for Juno’s, won New Artist of the Year with his Rockit 88 Band at the Maple Blues awards, two time producer and photographer of the year from the National Jazz Awards – four nominations for Jazz Journalist of the Year, and twice nominated for jazz photo of the Year by the International Jazz Journalist Association.
King can be heard on numerous recordings from Stan Rodgers, John Allan Cameron, The Rockit 88 Band, The Rhythm Express, The Saturday Nite Fish Fry – hundreds of tracks with an array of accomplished singers. He’s produced vocalists Liberty Silver, Sophie Milman, Shakura S’Aida, June Garber, Cornelia Luna, Kinga Hemming, and many others.
King began in radio at Q 107 in 1985, CIUT 89.5 FM 1986-87, hosted the nationally carried Jazz Report Radio Network 1988-91 in 26 Canadian cities, CJRT/Jazz.FM 2000 – 2005, Newstalk 1010, 2011 -.
Along with these endeavors King published the Jazz Report Magazine 1988-2006 and has been artistic director of the Beaches International Jazz Festival since it’s inception in 1988.
Jesse King has been on the music scene since 1987 working as musician, engineer, producer and radio host.
The 2-time JUNO Award winner & 8-time JUNO Award nominee has been involved in radio since 1993 working at one of Toronto’s (CHUM FM/ CHUM AM) as a producer and in the satellite department. Alongside host and co-producer, Bill King, Jesse produced, engineered content for Air Canada's In-Flight Jazz Programming.
In the late 1990's, his company curated Canadian jazz content for distribution to Sam Goody’s, VH1, MTV, Bell Media and many more.
