We need youth, 13-24 years old, with the following attributes:
- Good writing skills. You should be able to form concise sentences while paying attention to grammar, spelling and punctuation.
- An interest in photography. We love photos of people in action.
- A passion for learning
about all sorts of different things!
- Comfort conducting interviews. You will need to contact other youth, and
adults, to ask questions about a topic and take careful notes. What would your responsibilities be? You will be asked to write stories about topics that interest you. We may also ask you to step out of your comfort zone a bit, to learn about a topic with which you’re less familiar. We will encourage you to write to each of these “sections”, and to take photos to accompany your submissions:

Within two weeks of joining the YVR team, you’ll be asked for the following:
Attend Journalism 101 on a Tuesday evening. Submit one People in the Community Profile. Submit one Youth in Action Profile
Write a 40 to 100-word personal biography. What’s the time commitment? Each Youth Volunteer reporter will be asked to attend at least two story meetings per month. (You are welcome to attend EVERY week!)
We will encourage you to produce at least one Viewpoint or Local News story per week, and one People in the Community, Youth Leader Profile or Weekly Streeter per month. What if I don’t have that much time but I still want to contribute? We are also looking for occasional writers, for weekly and monthly feature columns on topics including life skills (such as easy recipes for youth), movie reviews, fashion, dating advice and other youth-related issue.
