During the 94th Geographica Dinner the recognized four notable Canadians for their achievements and contributions that helped advance the society’s mission of making Canada better known to Canadians and the world.

A champion of the rights of Indigenous Peoples in Canada and globally, Chief Wilton Littlechild exemplifies courageous leadership and integrity. He was awarded the Society’s Gold Medal in recognition of his lifetime accomplishments and dedication to the advancement of human rights.

was awarded the Lawrence J.Burpee Medal in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the field of conservation photography, particularly his commitment to polar ecosystems. His photographs have earned him dozens of national and international prizes. Nicklen is also a co-founder of the non-profit SeaLegacy, which spotlights ocean conservation stories.

was awarded the Bernier Medal in recognition of her remarkable musical achievements and her ongoing commitment to the success of the Royal Canadian Air Force. She has always integrated her musical accomplishments with service to this country. Perhaps most notably, she is the founder of the Cook-Rees Memorial Fund, which has raised more than $4 million for research, education and training initiatives that promote water safety.

Dave McKay was awarded the Lawrence J. Burpee Medal in recognition of his support, as CEO of RBC, for our mission to make Canada better known and our core value of lifelong learning. Under McKay’s leadership, RBC has contributed over $39 million since 2019 to charities and universities for projects that address complex environmental challenges, including two programs of Canadian Geographic Education that are dedicated to the conservation of land and water.
