KickDrum and Like Spinning Tapes are so happy to announce the Living Room Sessions—a cozy winter series made by the community for the community.

Throughout December and January we will be hosting two shows per week; one show will be at Le Cagibi and one will be at a cozy house venue in Montreal. I know what you’re thinking— “Wait I thought it was supposed to be once a week in a house venue.” Well things change fella! And when Cagibi reaches out to offer their terribly cozy café and delicious homemade chili n tacos once a week, you sure as heck don’t say no!

Each house show will be a suggested donation of $7-10 OR if you bring a dish to the potluck, entrance is free. More details about the potluck can be found in the individual event descriptions. Each Cagibi show will cost $7-10, and if you pay the extra three bucks, you get tacos or chili!

Anyway, here’s the lineup and links to each individual event! We literally couldn’t be more excited about each and every artists playing! (and honestly we were heart broken that we couldn’t put on every single person who applied—we received almost 100 amazing submissions!!!!)

Does anyone in Montreal have a medium sized basement or living room/loft, enjoy music with drums and want to venture to have a show in your home? Like Spinning Tapes will set and clean everything up, work door, and provide on-site support for you and the show's guests. Shows have not had an issue with maxed capacity in the past and we can even offer you a modest kickback from the door if you wish, as we are a non-profit. Hit us up here or at [email protected] and someone will get back to you shortly and answer any questions you might have. No commitment in reaching out, we are run by fellow lovers of music, both live and taped, who simply aim to assist in making Montreal's music community safer, more inclusive, and more accessible for both its musicians and its patrons. -📠

As we begin booking shows and releasing music in the new year, we here at Like Spinning Tapes have been working on taking a step we believe is much needed in the Montreal community: tangibly prioritizing survivors of abuse and assault in the spaces we facilitate. We stand by our original policy of “abusers ejected,” because the accountability processes of abusers should not re-open the door to them over the needs and wants of survivors.

We are therefore opening a Google form for survivors and allies to inform us of abusive folks who make our spaces unsafe and who should not be allowed into our shows, so that all survivors can exercise power in the spaces where they are typically denied it. This also extends to abusive folks who play in bands, book shows, work sound, etc. The form is private and confidential, and will only be seen by the Like Spinning Tapes team.

We are tired of hollow rhetoric of solidarity and accountability in the scene when shows are still booked, played, and attended by abusive people. The space they occupy belongs to the people they’ve harmed - no one should ever have to go to a show and face their abuser, feel threatened, or feel unheard.

Submissions can be anonymous or not, it is up to you. We're leaving this form intentionally quite open because we want survivors to feel as though they can say however much they want to, knowing that the length or detail of their disclosure will not determine the outcome. If someone feels unsafe, their word comes first, period.

An important reason for this policy is that we often witness abusive folks re-entering and reclaiming space after going through processes of accountability, yet without the direct consent of the survivor(s).

We are so grateful to all of the folks who come forward, and filled with awe and respect for the strength it demands.

We understand this is a big step, and if you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to us. This is a continuous process and we are excited to take this step, and we urge other bookers, bands, and spaces to take action as well.

In love + solidarity,
The LST Team
