Location Lookout!

Attention everyone! We’re on the lookout for some very specific (and unique) filming locations. The first one is a private Karaoke room. The other is a 50s looking space (cabin? something else?)

If you have anything like that in your possession, please drop us a line! We’d love to hear from you.

Wishing you and yours a safe and happy long weekend!

The World's First AI Written Film has been shut down. The people spoke, and the theatres listened.

The world's very first feature film written by ChatGPT was scheduled to launch in London this past week, but the new technology is facing some real world problems even AI didn't predict.

When publicity began announcing the premiere, the Prince Charles Theatre began receiving complaints (over 200, to be exact). Because of that, the theatre decided it was in their best interest to cancel the show.

Director Peter Luisi since has come out to public say the film's purpose was to create dialogue about AI, and would have preferred people to see the show and discuss it afterwards.

But what do you think? And would you watch it?
Check out our blog post on it if you want to see the trailer.

Hosted at the Towne Theatre on June 20, this festival is a celebration of all things paddle sports, promising an evening of excitement, adventure, and breathtaking cinematography.

Curated from a selection of 29 World Tour categories, seven standout shows have been shortlisted as winners, promising to captivate viewers with their awe-inspiring storytelling and stunning visuals.

Tickets for the show are $20. They are available at Bean Scene Coffee House, Ratio Coffee & Restaurant, or online at the Vernon Paddling Centre.

Hi Everyone,

As the Okanagan Film Commissioner, I would like to collaborate with all of you to transform our region into a premier destination for film and TV productions. Here are the key areas on which we will focus:

Attracting Productions:

1.Incentive Programs: We will advocate for the continued support of the government for regional tax incentives to attract domestic and international film productions, especially during uncertain times.

2. Community Engagement:
Local Benefits: Ensuring that film productions contribute to our community economically and culturally.

3. Supporting Local Talent and Businesses:
Workforce Development: Investing in training and education programs to support local talent and create skilled professionals.

4. Infrastructure Development:
Facilities: Constructing state-of-the-art studios and post-production facilities.

5. Sustainability:
Eco-friendly Practices: Promoting and supporting green filmmaking practices.

6. Regulatory Support:
Permitting: Simplifying the permitting process to facilitate productions.

7. Diversity and Inclusion:
Representation: Promoting diversity and inclusion in the film industry.

8. Partnerships and Collaboration:
Industry Relationships: Building strong connections with producers, production companies, unions, suppliers, and national and international film commissions.

These are bare bones of our strategic plan that we will build off.

To bring this vision to life, I would greatly appreciate your help and input. Here are some ways we can collaborate:

Finding Grants: If you are aware of any grants or funding opportunities that could support these initiatives, please let us know.

Leading Projects: If you or someone you know is interested in spearheading any of these projects, we would love to hear from you.

Community Involvement: How can we increase community participation? What events or programs would you like to see?

Feedback and Ideas: Your feedback and ideas are essential to ensure that we are on the right track.

Please share your thoughts and suggestions.
Please respond to [email protected] with your thoughts, suggestions, and offers to help.

By working together, we can establish a vibrant, sustainable, and inclusive film industry in the Okanagan, creating more opportunities for local talent and businesses.

I look forward to hearing from you and collaborating to turn these plans into reality.

Best,

Jon Summerland

Okanagan Film Commissioner

Hello Okanagan Film Team!

With filming ramping up in our region, so are the requests for new and unique locations. Today we are searching for a modern and contemporary home. It should be somewhat isolated and remote. And if it's hanging off a cliff - even better! If you or someone you know has access to a place like this, drop us a line! We'd love to hear from you!

Hello Okanagan Film Team!

Today we are in search of TWO cabins in the woods. One needs to be in rough shape (described as “derelict”), and the other one needs to be nicer. Possibly a log cabin or ranch style.

So if that sounds like something you have, be sure to drop us a line!

Thanks in advance!

Location Needed! Have you always wanted to have your home be in film? Now might be your chance to live out that dream. We're always looking for new and unseen spots to present to Producers, but today we have a more specific request: Ground level apartments. We've specifically been asked for open concept and modern condos, but we're also on the look out for something more rustic. So if you know of anything, drop us a line and let us know!
