My social media feeds were filled with grief this past week as high profile individuals took their own lives. I was rocked, myself, as I learned that another childhood friend had passed in the same manner…

The truth is that I would be hard pressed to name a person that I know who has NOT felt the cold, seductive darkness of depression to some degree, at some point in their lives. We are in this together. None of us are alone in our fear, doubt, shame and vulnerability.

“I’m not smart enough…”
“I’m not fast enough…”
"I’m not strong enough…”
“I’m not capable enough…”
“I’m not brave enough…”
“I’m not GOOD enough…”
“I’m not educated enough…”
“I’m not talented enough…”
“I’m not experienced enough…”
“I’m not young enough…”
“I’m not thin enough…”
“I’m not pretty enough…”

What it boils down to is:
I’M NOT WORTHY
I’M NOT ENOUGH

I want to start a movement.

YOU ARE ENOUGH.

Right now. In this moment. Without changing a thing.

YOU ARE ENOUGH.

You are worthy of the life that you want. You are worthy of chasing your dreams. You are worthy of the financial situation that you desire. You are worthy of the job that would make you happy. You are worthy of relationships that would bring you growth and joy.

You are worthy of your own love.

I will scream these words from the rooftops for the rest of my life. I will say it to everyone that I meet. I believe this with every fibre of my being. I am sure of very little in life, but this I know to be true:

I AM ENOUGH.

Let your coworkers hear you, let your loved ones hear you.

Let your children hear you.

YOU ARE ENOUGH.
I AM ENOUGH.

Her eyelashes fluttered nervously as she folded her hands in her lap, following my directions.
💕
This is the moment.
This is the point when our bond must form, that trust must begin to be built.
I keep my voice calm and constant. I must never leave her feeling alone, abandoned and not knowing what to do.

As I lift my camera to my face, blocking our eye contact I continue to speak, continue to guide from behind the lens.
I speak until the magic happens. That one split second when the truth shines out from her eyes and and catch my breath as I capture it...

Gratitude fills my heart as we move to the next pose, the next outfit, the next set-up. And as, with each movement, I witness her confidence grow.

The people around me had (naturally, as people do) mentally categorized who I was and what I was about and, although over time it ceased to be accurate, I couldn't break out of the preconceptions. I so badly wanted to be seen anew. To have who I was inside to burst forth and be acknowledged. I wish I had had an experience wherein someone saw ME. Celebrate Mothers

Do you have a mother who hides from the camera? I do. They think of everything, are capable of everything. Kissing hurts, giving love, joy, comfort, care, nourishment, support, discipline... In addition to that, they are the ones documenting all of the milestones and accomplishments. But who is documenting them?

I am in awe of the women around me. Particularly the mothers. The number of hats that they wear, if not always with ease, then with great grace. Amie let down her customary messy bun for the day and allowed herself some time and space to get pampered, done up and photographed. Here's to you.
